A new Easter experience with technology: How to make your home smart for the festive season

Easter is just around the corner once again. In many households, this means a return to well-trodden paths that many family members have not been happy with for a long time. Primary school children are bored with the Easter egg hunt in the garden and making the traditional decorations has become a chore. Fortunately, Easter can be experienced in a new way with technology. Modern tools help to break new ground without completely abandoning familiar traditions. How can this be achieved? We have a few suggestions for you!

Digitize preparations for the holidays

The Easter stress usually starts well before the holidays. If the family is expected for the traditional brunch, there is a lot of menu planning on the agenda. In addition, there is usually a lot of shopping to do – and it’s not uncommon for half of it to be forgotten, which is where the stress really begins. But even here, before the actual festivities begin, the Easter experience can be made easier with technology. If you have a digital voice assistance system that is connected to your cell phone, a short spoken statement is enough to create a digital shopping list, which you can then have read out to you as you go shopping. It doesn’t matter whether you use Amazon’s Alexa or a solution from Google, as the functionality is largely identical.

Background music for Easter brunch

Amazon’s Echo, such as the popular Echo Show 5 and 8, and similar devices can be helpful for more than just preparation. They are also a welcome help during the Easter celebrations when the whole family is sitting around the table together. In conjunction with Spotify and the like, they provide gentle background music to suit the mood. Two aspects are particularly interesting: The devices can be controlled by audio commands and customized playlists are available as well as the option to create your own lists. This not only makes it easy to use, but also means there is music to suit every taste. From children’s songs and elevator music to Easter classics, everything is possible here.

Spotify makes it easy to create an Easter mood via smart speakers

If you have a larger home and several smart speakers, you can also choose to play the music synchronously in several rooms. This creates a real party atmosphere and is particularly useful when lots of guests come together and the table, buffet and seating area are in different rooms.

Digital decoration

Smart lighting can replace elaborate decorations without compromising the Easter atmosphere

Easter nests are part of the festivities for most people in this country. But they are rarely the entire decoration. Decorations for the table, walls and the like are usually added in large quantities – and that means work. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to fall back on digital alternatives that can be switched on at the touch of a button? Fortunately, there are exactly that! Smart LED elements such as Nanoleafs in particular offer the opportunity to create a festive atmosphere without a great deal of effort. They create warm, Easter-like colors in a matter of seconds – and can be adapted to your own needs at any time. Of course, it doesn’t always have to be the fancy version. In case of doubt, ordinary light strips that are cleverly attached are perfectly adequate. However, if you want to be particularly flexible, you should opt for smart lamps such as Philips Hue, which can be used to distribute the desired color evenly throughout the room. Philips has also been offering smart lights for outdoor use for some time now. This is particularly appealing in view of the fact that the evenings finally start to get warmer again around Easter.

AR Easter egg hunt

Anyone who goes to elementary school today has grown up with the latest technology. AR, VR and the like are part of everyday life for today’s children – very different from most adults. So it’s hardly surprising that the classic Easter activities don’t get the little ones excited. But why give up the old traditions when we can make them fit for the 21st century? AR applications promise to help here, with which the classic egg hunt can be spiced up considerably. The apps promise a clear gameification with many interactive, graphic and acoustic elements – and all this while being integrated into the actual outside world, where real eggs or other gifts can be found.
