LG Display with new gaming OLED panel

LG Display has started mass production of a new type of OLED panel for gaming monitors that allows the frame rate and resolution to be adjusted thanks to dual mode. The display currently offers a screen diagonal of 31.5 inches, but will also be available in sizes of 27 inches, 34 inches, 39 inches and 45 inches in the future.

It is possible to display in Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) at a full 480 Hz or in 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) at 240 Hz. The high refresh rate mode should be particularly suitable for fast games such as competitive shooters, while the 4K mode still works faster than many inexpensive gaming monitors despite the high resolution.

Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) is the name of the technology that the manufacturer has applied for a patent for. The monitors also rely on META Technology 2.0 based on Micro Lens Array (MLA) innovations, which are designed to improve the maximum light output of organic materials. Thin Actuator Sound, on the other hand, enables the screen to play sounds directly without the need for dedicated speakers.

As OLED panels, the displays naturally offer the advantages of the technology, such as deep black levels, rich colors and a particularly low latency of just 0.03 ms. In terms of brightness, a whopping 1,30 nits can be achieved at peak levels, with 275 nits possible across the entire surface.

Price and availability

The new gaming OLED panels from LG Display have already been launched in the USA in the form of the LG UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE for 1,399.99 US dollars. It is not yet clear when and at what price it will be launched in Europe.
