Tesla: Prices for e-cars are already falling again

Is everything getting more expensive? Not everything. Anyone who has always wanted to fulfill their dream of owning a Tesla but has failed to do so due to financial constraints is now one step closer. The US manufacturer has once again lowered the prices of its cars. This may also have something to do with the precarious economic situation in which the company currently finds itself.

Tesla prices are falling

For years, Tesla shone with outstanding sales figures and as a celebrated investment on global stock markets. In the meantime, however, its success has stagnated. Although the company is still regarded as the most valuable car manufacturer, the question now is how much longer this will be the case. Tesla is already taking drastic measures.

Last week, for example, it was announced that the US manufacturer intends to lay off ten percent of its workforce worldwide. This corresponds to 14,000 employees. Now Tesla seems to have thrown another ring into the balance. A price reduction for vehicles and services is intended to boost demand considerably.

The company recently dropped the prices for its cars. For us in Germany, there are also big savings to be made. The focus is on the Tesla Model 3: while the basic SR version still cost 42,990 euros last week, you can now get it for 40,990 euros. The top version with a large battery and all-wheel drive no longer costs 51,990 euros, but 49,990 euros.

Battle against the competition

But it’s not just the cars that are available at a lower price. You can also save on services. For example, Tesla has significantly reduced the price of the comprehensive Full Self-Driving assistant. Tesla obviously wants to increase the attractiveness of its own vehicles. After all, the declining sales figures cannot be attributed solely to the fact that e-cars are generally becoming less popular.

Rather, competition from the Far East is growing. The Xiaomi SU7, an electric car that does a lot better than the Model 3, at least on paper, is due to be launched on the market this year. We may find out tomorrow what Tesla’s detailed plans are for escaping the downward spiral. That’s when the electric car manufacturer plans to present its quarterly figures.
