AOC GAMING U28G2XU2: Gaming monitor with 4K and HDMI 2.1 presented

With the AOC GAMING U28G2XU2, the manufacturer has introduced an exciting new gaming monitor. It is primarily characterized by its 4K resolution and the connection via HDMI 2.1, thanks to which PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X also benefit from 4K with 120 FPS. Most recently, the AOC AG274QG was in top form in our review.

AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 in detail

From a purely visual standpoint, the new AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 gaming monitor continues the manufacturer’s design language, relying on a black frame with striking red details on the back.

From a technical perspective, it is a 28-inch (71.1 cm screen diagonal) monitor that relies on a matte IPS display in 16:9 format. It has a maximum brightness of 370 nits, offers a WLED backlight and therefore comes with a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification.

The viewing angle is 178 degrees from all directions, which is typical for the panel. In addition, the AOC monitor resolves in 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) and comes up with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The gray-to-grey response time is 1 ms.

Although declared as a gaming monitor, the AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 also covers the DCI-P3 color space by 93 percent and the sRGB color space by a full 99 percent. It should thus also be quite suitable for image and video editing. Other features include Low Blue Light technology, as well as multiview via PbP (Picture-by-Picture) and PiP (Picture-in-Picture).

Connectivity and Features

The AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 also features two integrated speakers, each with a power of 3 watts, and can be mounted on the wall via Vesa with a 100×100 hole. The monitor also leaves hardly anything to be desired in terms of ergonomics.

The display can be tilted by 30 degrees, adjusted in height by 130 mm and swiveled between -5 degrees and 23 degrees. A pivot function makes it possible to turn it by 90 degrees to enable a vertical display.

Gaming options can be set in the G menu. Different modes for different genres await you here, while you can influence the shadows or fade in a crosshair, as well as an FPS counter.

AMD FreeSync Premium technology ensures that GPU and monitor refresh rates are synchronized to enable a smooth, frame-tear-free gaming experience at peak performance.

The U28G2XU2 connects via two HDMI 2.1 ports, which also enable 120 Hz in 4K on the current PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. There are also two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, a USB fast charging port and a USB hub with three 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Even a 3.5 mm jack is part of the features of the 6.37 kg monitor.

Price and Availability

The AOC GAMING U28G2XU2 gaming monitor is expected to be available in stores during July 2022. The manufacturer’s RRP is 689.99 British pounds, which is equivalent to around 817 euros. However, prices for the German market are still to be announced. More details can be found on the official product website.
