DJI Mini 4K: affordable entry-level drone launches for 299 euros

The new DJI Mini 4K appears to be a light update to the entry-level DJI Mini 2 SE drone introduced last year. It uses 4K resolution for videos at up to 100 Mbit/s and weighs just 249 grams, which puts it in the A1 category.

The DJI Mini 4K, which is now listed on Amazon and sells for 299.00 euros, takes off without much fanfare. However, there is no mention of the new model on the manufacturer’s website. This is probably due to the fact that it is essentially the DJI Mini 2 SE, which is equipped with slight improvements.

This mainly includes the video resolution, which is now available in 4K with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and records at a maximum of 30 fps. Last year, the Mini SE2 only achieved 2.7K with 2,720 x 1,530 pixels. The bit rate for videos has also been increased to up to 100 MBit/s (instead of 40 MBit/s).

Otherwise, not much has changed in terms of features. The camera is stabilized on three axes with a gimbal and EIS, while the 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor also takes photos at 12 megapixels. The video transmission has a range of 10 kilometers, whereby the Mini 4K can also take off from a height of 4,000 meters and master wind speeds of 38 km/h.

Thanks to GNSS and downward-facing visual and infrared sensors, it also has a mode for stable hovering, can take off or land at the touch of a button and return to the user intelligently and automatically.

The flight time of the DJI Mini 4K is 31 minutes, but can be increased to up to 93 minutes with additional batteries. Thanks to a weight of only 249 grams, the Mini 4K has an A1 rating, which means that no drone driver’s license is required.

Price and availability

The DJI Mini 4K is already listed and on sale on Amazon at a price of 299.00 euros. This makes it even cheaper than the DJI Mini 2 SE, which was launched last year for 389 euros. The Fly More Combo, which costs 439 euros, includes a total of three batteries, a dual charger and a carrying bag. This puts it in direct competition with the drone top seller Potensic ATOM SE, which is always heavily discounted and – thanks to a coupon – currently costs just 249.99 euros.
