Elgato Facecam Pro: The world’s first 4K60 webcam

With the Elgato Facecam Pro, the manufacturer has introduced a new webcam that aims to score with a high-resolution and fluid image. Specifically, it marks the first webcam in the world that allows recording in 4K at 60 frames per second.

The Elgato Facecam Pro in detail

The Facecam (our review) is now followed by an all-around improved model in the form of the Elgato Facecam Pro. It significantly increases the resolution and enables recordings in 4K resolution with 60 frames per second.

With a large-area sensor from Sony, a photographic wide-angle lens with variable focus, a revolutionary image processor, integrated flash memory and plug-and-play functionality, the new webcam offers everything content creators want.

The Facecam Pro features Elgato’s f/2.0-21mm autofocus lens, which can also manually focus in as little as 10cm or focus to infinity. Offered is a 90-degree field of view, allowing for wide-angle studio shots or group video chats.

The 1/1.8″ SONY STARVIS wide-area sensor is claimed by the manufacturer to be able to image an exceptionally high level of detail, with pan, tilt and zoom, as well as in lower light conditions.

Smart processor

Encoding and streaming of 4k60 video is done using Elgato’s latest image signal processor via USB 3.0 with exceptionally low latency. Instant light correction is also applied via the chip. There’s also automatic noise cancellation and many other nano-calculations that should ensure compelling video quality.

Apps that don’t support 4K60 video will also benefit from an advanced algorithm that converts raw 4K60 video to 1080p60 video. The result is said to look better than it would with full HD video.

The Facecam Pro comes with a sturdy monitor mount that features a 1/4-inch thread, allowing it to be attached to an Elgato Multi Mount or other compatible tripod.

Price and Availability

The Elgato Facecam Pro is available now from all Elgato and Corsair distributors and resellers worldwide. In the process, the manufacturer calls a recommended retail price of 349.99 euros. More details can be found on the official product website.
