Gionee K3 Pro integrates fingerprint sensor into camera module

Fingerprints, grease and other residues on the lens can have a massive impact on the image quality. Actually, most people avoid touching a camera lens almost instinctively. The Chinese company Gionee has nevertheless made an unusual design decision and integrated the fingerprint sensor into the camera module of the smartphone in the Gionee K3 Pro.

The smartphone, which costs just 699 yuan (approx. 85 euros), has a 6.53-inch 720p+ IPS display and a MediaTek Helio P60 SoC. Depending on the equipment variant, 6 or 8 GB RAM is installed. The internal memory offers 128 GB capacity. In a small notch, Gionee installs a selfie camera (12 MP) in the K3 Pro, the main camera on the back (16 MP) is supported by two additional cameras whose technical details have not yet been released.

Although the 4,000 mAh battery is not unusually large, the device is comparatively thick and heavy at 9.7 millimeters and 205 grams. Another negative aspect is that Android 9 Pie is still installed as operating system. Although Android 11 will already be released in a few weeks, an update is not expected. Also a release in Europe is very unlikely.
