Ikea expands the Vappeby range with a waterproof Bluetooth speaker in a compact design. Unlike, for example, the Symfonisk Fekvens along with its LED light, the new Bluetooth speaker from the Swedish furniture store can also provide the right background music in damp environments such as the shower or bathtub.
What’s inside the Ikea Vappeby Bluetooth speaker
The new Ikea Vappeby Bluetooth speaker is set to launch as early as April 2023 and will remain in the Swedes’ lineup for the long term, according to the press release.
It relies on a minimalist design and is said to provide a battery life of up to 80 hours – at 50 percent volume. What’s more, the IP67-tested, waterproof speaker can be combined with another model in the same lineup to create stereo sound.
Offered by Ikea, the Bluetooth speaker comes in a variety of colors, including black, yellow and red. Even 30-minute dives underwater are said to be possible with the compact Bluetooth speaker, which designer Stjepan Begic says was developed with the goal of combining compelling sound quality in a versatile product that can be used anywhere.
Price and Availability
In addition to the merit of being waterproof, the price also speaks for the new Ikea Vappeby Bluetooth speaker. This is to be offered from April 2023 namely for just 15 US dollars, so presumably also 15 euros. The speaker is charged via USB Type-C, by the way. Ikea apparently does not supply the matching charging adapter, as Engadget notes – but that should be forgivable.
What the part has to offer in terms of sound also remains to be seen. You shouldn’t expect too much for the price, though. On the other hand, very few people probably need high-resolution hi-fi sound in the shower, right?
