Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5: New convertibles with Intel or AMD

One of many innovations that Lenovo presented at the Mobile World Congress 2022 are the new convertibles. The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5 come with new Intel and AMD processors, respectively, and rely on an updated design that also results in an even lower weight.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5 revealed at MWC 2022

The two convertible notebooks Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5, which the manufacturer unveiled at MWC 2022, feature a new design language. However, this is not purely visual and presents itself quite futuristic. It also results in better ergonomics and a lower weight.

However, a lot has also changed under the hood. The Intel model Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i now uses current processors from the 12th generation U-series. The convertible can be equipped with a maximum Intel Core i7-1255U. The Intel Iris Xe MAX GPU is responsible for the graphics.

The AMD counterpart IdeaPad Flex 5, on the other hand, relies on processors from AMD’s U-series, up to the Ryzen 7 5700U, while the integrated AMD Radeon graphics unit is used as the GPU. In addition, both variants are equipped with up to 16 GB of working memory and a maximum 1 TB PCIe-SSD.

14-16 inch display with OLED panel

In terms of displays, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5 offer a choice between a 14-inch variant and a 16-inch panel. This realizes resolutions up to a maximum of 2.8K, which are displayed in a 16:10 format.

Optionally, an OLED panel is also offered, which provides better contrast and wider viewing angles. In addition, the DCI-P3 color space is covered by 100%, while the maximum brightness is 400 nits.

Lenovo Eye Care software is once again used to reduce eye strain. The convertibles also feature Smart Learning functions like Flip to Start, Smart Power and Smart Noise Cancelling. The manufacturer installs a webcam with Full HD resolution on the front, which also has a privacy shutter.

Other features

Other features include a USB Type-C port (USB 3.2), which is responsible for fast data transfer, power supply and connection to displays. There is also Thunderbolt 4, an SD card reader, and two front-facing speakers with Dolby Atmos certification.

The manufacturer does not provide details about the battery runtime and capacity of Lenovo’s IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5. However, thanks to Rapid Charge Boost, around 15 minutes on the mains should be enough to supply the convertibles with juice for around two hours of video playback. Windows 11 Home/Pro is used as the operating system.

Prices and availability

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i and Flex 5 convertible notebooks will launch in May 2022, starting with the AMD model IdeaPad Flex 5, priced at 549 euros (14 inches) and 699 euros (16 inches), respectively.

The Intel variant Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i will follow one month later, in June 2021, for 499 Euros (14 inches) and 699 Euros for the 16-inch notebook. The compatible pens for inputting, such as the Lenovo Digital Pen and the Lenovo E-Color Pen, are optionally available separately.
