Lenovo introduces new ThinkPad X1 models

Lenovo has unveiled new models of the premium ThinkPad X1 series notebooks. At the top of Lenovo’s ThinkPad portfolio, the X1 Carbon 10th Gen, X1 Yoga 7th Gen and X1 Nano 2nd Gen expand THE lineup. They combine high performance with enhanced camera and audio features for more intensive collaboration.

What’s New in the ThinkPad X1 Series

A redesigned communications bar that includes a superior camera and 360-degree far-field quad microphones is complemented by OLED display options and Dolby-supported solutions, including Dolby Voice with its latest noise-canceling technology, for a better audiovisual experience.

The new ThinkPad X1s are equipped with the latest 12th generation Intel Core processors with vPro technology and feature ThinkShield robust security complemented by new Computer Vision (CV) technology. CV provides major improvements in user presence detection by enabling smarter data protection, easier login and better power management.

In addition, innovations include a new ThinkCentre M90a Pro Gen 3 all-in-one (AIO) and a redesigned Tiny-in-One (TIO) called TIO Flex, which reinterprets the modular AIO business desktop from 2014.

Also new are the 27-inch ThinkVision P-Series monitors, which expand the user’s workspace and offer additional features for greater efficiency and productivity in home and office environments. They can be equipped with an optional ThinkVision Voice-over-IP (VOIP) Modular Stack with webcam and speakers for a seamless video collaboration solution.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon, ThinkPad X1 Yoga and more

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has reached a milestone with its 10th generation and continues to offer everything a modern professional needs today. The 7th generation ThinkPad X1 Yoga, with its milled premium aluminum design, is elegant and powerful.

All models now support 12th-generation Intel Core P-Series processors that offer a significant performance boost, including the flagship and still lightest ThinkPad ever: The less than 1 kg ThinkPad X1 Nano 2nd Gen.

A key design feature is the new communication bar, which integrates enhanced FHD webcam options, privacy shutter, and 360-degree far-field quad array microphones. The design of the bar allows for a camera with a larger sensor than normally found in laptops. The 1.4μm sensor improves image quality, especially in low-light conditions.

The new computer vision technology uses a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to generate metadata from the integrated camera based on known recognition and AI algorithm models. The technology provides smarter presence detection and unlocks the PC only when the user approaches it, not colleagues, pets or family members.

It even works when the user is wearing a protective mask. To save power, Computer Vision can also turn off or dim the screen when the user looks away. This improves energy efficiency and provides additional privacy protection when working in public places.

Many improvements to ThinkPad X1 models

.
All ThinkVision LFD displays and ThinkPad X1 models share the same technical specifications and have been greatly improved in terms of performance, user experience and connectivity. They feature the latest 12th generation Intel Core processors with vPro options including U15 and P28 processors.

Faster LPDDR5 memory and PCIe Gen 4 storage options reduce system latency. There is also a new Air-Intake keyboard design on the X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga, which improves cooling in particular. ThinkPad X1 models offer vibrant displays, including new 2.8k OLED options for the X1 Carbon and 4K OLED options for the X1 Yoga, as well as Eyesafe-certified panels with low blue light.

Wi-Fi 6E6 is now available for better bandwidth on crowded networks, and when Wi-Fi is not available, users can use Cat16 4G LTE or 5G sub-6 WWAN connections. ThinkShield Firmware Resiliency 2.0 improves security with advanced protection, detection and recovery of additional components. ThinkPad X1 models support all of Tile’s search capabilities, allowing users to locate their PC for up to 14 days, even when it’s turned off.

ThinkCentre M90a Pro Gen 3: Flexible and Customizable

The premium ThinkCentre M90a Pro Gen 3 AIO business desktop is more than just a simple update. The new M90a has new features that make the product a smart, productive and collaborative PC. Powered by 12th-generation Intel Core processors up to i9 on the Intel Q670 platform with vPro technology, it features a 23.8-inch QHD display, up to 64GB of DDR5, and a variety of storage options and IO ports.

HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort outputs, which allow for the connection of a second display, are also offered. Another highlight is a fully functional stand with 90-degree swivel function.

Strong for video conferencing

The M90a Pro Gen 3 comes standard with a swiveling camera with dual-array microphones and two 3-watt speakers for customized videoconferencing. An optional base on the stand with dedicated teleconferencing features brings collaboration to life. Quad-array microphones with 360-degree far-field pickup and AI noise-canceling technology, plus four Harman-designed speakers, transform the M90a into a PC for group conferencing.

Optimized for Microsoft Teams with a built-in USB Type-C cable, it can also be connected to a compatible laptop, turning any room into a conference room.

The M90a Pro Gen 3 also has optional presence detection through Intel Context Sensing Technology, so the system wakes up when a user approaches and automatically locks up when they leave.

Lenovo TIO Flex

With the introduction of the new TIO Flex, Lenovo has focused on a complete value proposition for customers that reduces complexity for office and field workers. Flex offers high flexibility with support for the last four generations of Tiny desktops, as well as new monitor options up to 27 inches, and provides easy upgrade paths with separate desktop and display refresh capability. There are three parts to the modularity:

    • TIO Flex Stand, a single solution for all compatible Tiny desktops and ThinkVision displays
    • Optional ThinkCentre Tiny Desktop. The TIO Flex Stand supports Tiny Gen 4 through Gen 8
    • Optional T Series ThinkVision monitors with 22-, 24- and 27-inch displays with or without VoIP capability
    • In addition, an optional VESA standard 100×100 mount is available for other monitors.
      available.

ThinkVision P27h-30 and P27q-30

ThinkVision P27h-30 and P27q-30 are 27-inch QHD displays with a nearly borderless bezel that offer vivid color reproduction with calibrated color accuracy. They rely on 95% DCI-P3 and 99% sRGB color space coverage, offer BT.709 colors and HDR10 support.

Common to both monitors is a fully adjustable stand and low-blue-light technology that reduces eye strain during long work sessions. ThinkColour software simplifies operation and provides smart and easy control of the monitor.

The differences

The P27h-30 and the P27q-30 differ in functionality, making them suitable for different scenarios. The P27h-30 is designed for a flexible work environment that requires a quick laptop connection with a single-cable docking solution.

With up to 100W of charging power, Ethernet, USB hub and multi-display capability, the P27h-30 is ideal for home office and hot desk environments and also offers a KVM switch feature that allows power users to easily switch between PC inputs.

Webcam and Soundbar

Both P-30 series monitors feature a common video collaboration option. The ThinkVision modular VoIP stack offers a unique wireless conferencing solution with the new MC60 monitor webcam, MS30 monitor soundbar and a clever USB stand that plugs directly into a USB port on the top of the P-30 series.

The modular soundbar (MS30) with USB stand for audio conferencing provides clear sound with two 2-watt speakers and a security lock for physical protection. The modular webcam (MC60) with USB tripod delivers clear FHD video with autofocus capability and dual-array microphones with beamforming technology for noise reduction. The MC60 can select a different field of view with 65-, 78- or 90-degree wide angle and features a privacy shutter.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 models will launch in May 2022, with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 starting at an MSRP of $1,579, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 starting at $1,769, and the ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2 will be available starting at $1,749.
