LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K gaming monitor review

If you want to buy a new PC monitor, you will quickly feel overwhelmed by the broad screen market, especially as a layman. If you are looking for a lot of performance at a fair price, you cannot avoid the manufacturer LC-Power. The hardware experts from NRW regularly combine high picture quality with a chic design. Today we want to take a look at the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K.

Differences to the LC-Power LC-M32-QHD-165-C-K

The test is particularly exciting because we were already able to put its big brother through its paces as a review unit last November. The LC-M32-QHD-165-C-K offered a larger screen diagonal, but could “only” score with a refresh rate of 165 Hz. In contrast, LC-Power wants to show off with a proud 240 Hz in the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K. Apart from that, the spec sheet makes it clear that the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K also offers exciting gaming features. In addition to AMD FreeSync Premium, HDR 1000 is also supposed to ensure the best possible screen content.

Scope of delivery & assembly

As usual with LC-Power, you can get a taste of what’s inside just by looking at the packaging. Namely, the German hardware manufacturer has unceremoniously printed a picture of its LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K on the cardboard box.

On top of that, you can already get the most important data about the monitor here. But enough with the theory. Let’s take a look inside. Once you have taken the individual parts out of the box, it quickly becomes clear that the assembly of the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K isn’t witchcraft.

The manufacturer includes everything you need for assembly:

  • monitor
  • stand
  • DisplayPort cable
  • HDMI cable
  • Power adapter
  • Mounting hardware
  • User manual

First of all, you attach the stand to the monitor arm and then to the monitor. Especially cool is the fact that you don’t need any tools for this.

If, on the other hand, you decide to mount it on the wall, you can screw the VESA mount, for which LC-Power not only supplies the screws, but also the required screwdriver.

The setup is complete after a few minutes. In order to be able to connect source devices, the manufacturer includes an HDMI cable in addition to a DisplayPort cable.

Design & workmanship

Once the monitor is set up, it quickly becomes clear that it is an asset to pretty much any PC setup. Above all, the matte white design ensures that your gaming area is given a classy touch. But apart from the cool design, the color scheme also has quite simply practical advantages. After all, dust is hardly visible on white surfaces. Thanks to the matte design, you don’t have to fear ugly fingerprints on top of that.

The matte white surface hardly allows dust to be seen and is very easy to care for.

If you then press the power button and the screen shines, the wonderfully thin screen edges become apparent. If you place the monitor in front of a white wall, you can hardly see them – another advantage of the color scheme. Besides the monitor, the three-legged stand also scores points. Since this is also rather inconspicuous, the monitor seems to literally float.

The monitor can also be adjusted in height without any problems.

Once turned over, black elements come to light. For example, there is a black circle on the back, which forms a nice contrast to the other white. Another highlight is the diagonally running light strip. The monitor’s ports are located in the lower center of the back. LC-Power also maintains the positive image in terms of build quality. Here you can’t see the monitor’s comparatively low price.

We really like the contrast of black and white!

One of the most striking features of the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K is, of course, the curved screen. However, the curvature of 1000R could lead to the monitor being a bit too deep for one or the other user. You should definitely keep this in mind in case of too little space. With the stand mounted, it measures 616 x 560 x 269 mm. If you have the space, however, you should keep in mind that the curved design also brings great advantages. After all, this offers an inimitable in-the-middle feeling.

Features & Ergonomics

The monitor is also by no means stingy with practicality. This becomes especially clear in the port diversity. Here you’ll find 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, 1x USB hub (2x USB-A, 5 Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 1×1), 1x Type-C PD (65 W) and 1x audio out (3.5 mm jack). Speaking of audio. LC-Power does without integrated speakers in its 27 incher. However, since most gaming and entertainment fans rely on speakers or headphones anyway, this will probably bother very few.

Everyone should be able to find what they are looking for in terms of ports

.

Apart from the many connections, a screen should also be ergonomic. And LC-Power scores here as well. The angle of the monitor can be adjusted horizontally and vertically so that you get your own personal viewing angle, which enables comfortable sitting and prevents back pain. The height can also be adjusted. Thus, the monitor is not only suitable for gaming, but can also be used comfortably at the home office.

Talking about the features, of course we can’t leave out one of the visual highlights – the RGB strip on the back. This creates a nice lighting effect that flexes its muscles especially when the monitor is placed directly in front of a wall. Then it provides indirect lighting that is reminiscent of Phillips’ Ambilight series – but less intense. Settings for this can be made on the monitor itself.

Image quality of the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K

If we talk about a monitor, we must of course also talk about the image quality. Since everyone has their preferences in this regard, we would like to present as neutral a result as possible with the Datacolor SpyderX Elite measuring device. We’ll start with the color gamut of the monitor.

Color gamut of the monitor

Those who value the sRGB color space will be happy to know that the monitor covers it 100 percent. AdobeRGB is covered to 87 percent. P3 is again covered by 94 percent and NTSC by 84 percent. These are good values, which underline that the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K can also be used without problems in the field of image or video editing. We continue with the tonal value representation. Here, the results are on a similarly high level as it is the case with the larger LC-M32-QHD-165-C-K. Thus, the monitor offers gamma values of 2.2.

Tone value display

LC-Power relies on a VA panel for its gaming monitor. While these typically don’t offer high viewing angle stability, they do allow for a high refresh rate and, most importantly, great contrasts. We can see this here as well. At a brightness of 100 percent, the monitor offers a contrast ratio of a remarkable 3220:1. While we really have to praise the contrasts overall, the white point rather gives cause for complaint. Here, the monitor only delivers a satisfactory result.

Furthermore, color homogeneity plays a major role. After all, there is hardly anything more unattractive than uneven color distribution on a monitor. Here, the bigger brother with 32 inches gave a little cause for grumbling (test). Obviously, LC-Power has taken the criticism to heart. After all, the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K delivers good results here. The deviations of the color values are really kept within limits here, which leads to a wonderfully uniform picture.

In terms of luminance homogeneity, however, the monitor can’t eradicate the 32 incher’s weak points. Here, the illumination still appears a bit uneven at times, which is not only noticeable at high brightness. Even in the area tested by us with a brightness of 50 percent, some differences showed up.

The LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K delivers a really very good result in the discipline of picture quality. There is actually hardly any reason to complain here. After all, it offers a great color gamut as well as great contrasts and a very good color homogeneity. The monitor actually only gives reasons to complain about the luminance homogeneity and the white point.

Gaming, Entertainment & Office

The LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K already makes it clear at first glance that it wants to be a real gaming monitor. Of course, we checked whether it lives up to this categorization during an extensive gaming session. Before we get started, however, we want to check the data situation. On paper, the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K offers a lot that should be the best prerequisites for demanding gamers. Two of the most important features are already found in the name. Firstly, there is the QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels). This offers a razor-sharp picture both in games and when watching movies or series.

LC-Power provides the monitor with a refresh rate of 240 Hz so that this also flickers across the screen in buttery smooth motion pictures. This ensures that you don’t have to worry about distorting images even in fast-paced first-person shooters – assuming powerful graphics hardware. But you also benefit from the high refresh rate when surfing the World Wide Web. This enables lightning-fast scrolling without blurred images. If you have a compatible graphics card, you’ll be happy about AMD FreeSync Premium.

Here, the GPU communicates with the monitor to flexibly regulate the best possible refresh rate. This ensures that the gaming feeling is as smooth as possible and image delays are virtually non-existent. A feature that rather pays off in office use is flicker-free technology as well as the integrated light sensor. These two functions ensure that even working for hours on the monitor is as gentle on your eyes as possible.

There are only two ways to react to a curved design like the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K. Either you love it or you hate it. Here you get a curvature of 1000R. You may think what you like about it. What is certain, however, is that it provides an inimitable feeling of being in the middle of things. When you’re gaming or watching a movie, the monitor sucks you right into the action. However, friends of couch co-op or shared movie nights literally look down the tube. Thus, the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K only offers a very good picture for those who sit directly in the center in front of the monitor.

Summary on the LC-Power LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K

Looking for a new gaming monitor that has a lot going for it? Then the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K is definitely worth a look. Besides a razor-sharp resolution in QHD, a refresh rate of 240 Hz also ensures that. If you have the right hardware, you will benefit from buttery smooth motion pictures without distracting distortions. Gamers will be happy about AMD FreeSync Premium. However, the image content is also impressive in still pictures. Finally, the monitor offers a good to very good performance in terms of picture quality. Here, there are only deductions in the B grade due to the only satisfactory homogeneity in the illumination as well as performance in the white point.

The build quality and the high-quality design, on the other hand, are once again completely convincing. This positive picture is immediately apparent when unpacking the notebook for the first time and continues when switching it on. Finally, a real design highlight appears with the RGB strip on the back. Thanks to indirect illumination, it conjures up a beautiful lighting atmosphere that is well worth seeing. All of this makes the LC-M27-QHD-240-C-K a great overall package that leaves little to nothing to be desired. For a current price of just over 550 euros, this is a real value for money.
