Made in Germany: Deutsche Bahn deploys new Gigaset smartphones

Manufacturer Gigaset is once again entering into a partnership with Deutsche Bahn with its “Made in Germany” smartphones. Gigaset has once again come out on top with its latest smartphone models in two independent, public invitations to tender issued by Deutsche Bahn.

Deutsche Bahn and Gigaset cooperate again

7,000 devices of the Gigaset GS5 model will henceforth be used by train attendants of Deutsche Bahn, the manufacturer announced in a press release. The company has once again secured a partnership with DB in two public tenders.

Gigaset supplies the hardware for ticket control, ticket sales or ticket payment for Deutsche Bahn in local transport. The product is called DB Mosaik and eliminates the need for separately manufactured hardware in buses and trains.

All work, control options and requirements can be handled directly via Gigaset’s service smartphone. Around 7,000 already deployed and existing smartphones of the older model Gigaset GS5 PRO will also be replaced and exchanged with the new variant.

Gigaset GS5 series with three models

The three models GS5 LITE, GS5 and GS5 PRO convince with an enduring exchangeable battery, monthly security updates, 128 GB storage capacity and the powerful processor MediaTek Helio G85. The mid-range GS5 model could already convince us in a test last year.

The Pro model comes with a 64 MP main camera and 6 GB RAM and relies on Android Enterprise, which meets the requirements of Deutsche Bahn. All devices are “Made in Germany” and are manufactured at Gigaset’s main plant in Bocholt, North Rhine-Westphalia. The short delivery times and routes support Deutsche Bahn AG, especially when it comes to handling complex projects.

Of particular interest to companies is the ability to flexibly configure the devices. The start screen with the company logo, pre-installed apps, background images and much more can be customized and individualized at the time of delivery. Even for relatively small quantities, logos, IMEI numbers, department designations or other individual information can be engraved on the back of the device, the manufacturer promises.

For Gigaset, sustainability aspects are also playing an increasingly important role in companies: “Many companies have set themselves ambitious sustainability goals. We notice that, as part of their voluntary commitment, they are looking for suppliers who can help them meet them. Again and again we experience that we can also convince with our commitment to the location”, says Jörg Wissing, Senior Product & Business Development Manager.

Prices and availability

Of course, the smartphones in the Gigaset GS5 model range are not only aimed at companies, but also have a lot to offer private customers. They also score with a convincing price-performance ratio.

The Gigaset GS5 LITE is available in Pearl White and Titanium Grey at a price of 249 euros in stores and in the manufacturer’s online store. The Gigaset GS5 has an MSRP of 299 Euros, and the GS5 PRO is exclusively available for business customers at a price of 349 Euros.
