Micron introduces Crucial P3 and Crucial P3 Plus M.2 SSDs

Micron has introduced two new consumer SSDs, the Crucial P3 and Crucial P3 Plus, which are positioned below the top model P5 Plus. They rely on PCIe 4.0 in the case of the P3 Plus and PCIe 3.0 in the case of the Crucial P3 and still enable blazing speeds.

Crucial P3 and Crucial P3 Plus unveiled

Both models, Crucial P3 and Crucial P3 Plus, are offered with capacities of up to 4 TB, starting at 500 MB each. There are differences mainly in terms of connectivity and, along with that, the maximum speeds.

Thanks to PCIe 4.0, the Plus model reaches a maximum of 5,000 MB/s read and 4,200 MB/s write. The Crucial P3, on the other hand, isn’t quite as fast thanks to PCIe 3.0 x4 and still manages 3,500 MB/s / 3,000 MB/s. In comparison, the P5 Plus offers significantly faster read and write speeds with 6,600 MB/s / 5,000 MB/s.

Both NVMe SSDs are offered in the M.2 form factor and without a heat sink. Micron relies on the 176-layer generation for 3D NAND, but the announcement unfortunately does not provide information about the use of TLC or QLC.

Other than that, details are also rather sparse. However, the pictures on the product websites of the Crucial P3 Plus Gen4 NVMe SSD indicate a rather small controller. There doesn’t seem to be a DRAM cache.

Prices and Availability

The Crucial P3 and Crucial P3 Plus M.2 SSDs are expected to make their way to retail before the end of summer 2022. They will be shipped with Crucial’s Storage Executive management software. The manufacturer has not yet mentioned details about the prices.
