MWC 2024: The Samsung Galaxy Ring is a miniature wearable

The Samsung Galaxy Ring was only announced at the beginning of the year as an exciting wearable in ring format. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the South Koreans are now giving us our first look at this exciting piece of tech jewelry.

Smart rings are nothing new. In fact, gadgets such as the jewelry from CNICK (test) have been on the market for some time. However, their range of functions is quite limited. With their built-in NFC chip, they are primarily used as a practical means of payment at the checkout. The Samsung Galaxy Ring is intended to go a few steps further. This is a genuine health gadget that should be able to keep up with many a wearable. Visually, the smart piece of jewelry is rather restrained in its classic ring shape. The Galaxy Ring is also available in the very classic colors black, silver and gold. However, the inner workings of the smart ring are anything but understated.

After all, the tech company has installed several sensors in a very small space to measure the wearer’s vital signs. Which individual sensors are involved is still up in the air. As the rings were only allowed to be admired in a glass cage, only a few selected members of the press have been able to take a closer look at the hardware. What we can be sure of is, of course, a heart rate monitor. However, an accelerometer and a thermometer are also currently considered likely. The big advantage over classic fitness trackers is, of course, the fact that the battery should last a very long time and the gadget can be worn much more discreetly.

Price and availability

Of course, the question of all questions is now aimed at the market launch. However, Samsung is still leaving this question as open as the price. However, the tech company will certainly not miss the opportunity to provide more detailed information in the coming weeks.
