Nokia 2660 Flip: Rebirth of a true classic

HMD Global has unveiled an exciting new phone that should appeal to those who value practicality over high performance. The Nokia 2660 Flip is a practical foldable phone that is supposed to be an inexpensive alternative to the high-priced foldables offered by other manufacturers. On top of that, it is supposed to help you take a break from social media and the like.

Nokia 2660 Flip is a real dumbphone

The Nokia brand is dead? Absolutely not! Ever since HMD Global secured the trademark rights of the former Finnish star in the cell phone sky, Nokia has been writing success stories again. Above all, it is the fair price, but also sustainability, with which the manufacturer wants to convince the clientele. The Nokia G22 (test) is probably a prime example that this plan works. The Nokia 2660 is also very similar, and this device is also a real price-performance hit at first glance. However, a closer look reveals that this is more of a cell phone than a smartphone.

Finally, HMD Global is giving the latest model a flip design. This is even a genuine revival of the eponymous forefather, which was launched 16 years ago. According to the manufacturer, the Nokia 2660 Flip is not just a niche product for all those who cry for the early 2000s. Rather, a really large market for just such phones has opened up recently.

So-called “dumbphones” are becoming increasingly popular among the clientele, as their compact design and low price make them easy to take along to the next best festival. On top of that, according to HMD Global, people are also opting to use such devices away from the festival or camping grounds. After all, actively doing without smartphones and a permanent Internet connection is the best step towards digital detox. That this is fully in the trend, HMD Global could bring to light in the context of a large-scale survey in Australia.

Nokia 2660 Flip focuses on the essentials

The Nokia 2660 Flip does not seem to be a shot in the dark. Rather, Lars Silberbauer, Chief Marketing Officer at HMD Global, emphasizes that the company is clearly focused on current trends in society. In fact, rudimentarily equipped phones that resemble the classics from the late 90s and early 2000s in terms of functionality seem to be achieving an ever-increasing demand. Users are sometimes simply tired of the constant push notifications from Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and the like. Silberbauer talks about people wanting “more simplicity and direct human contact.” Classic calls and chats via SMS should be able to suffice.

With all the marketing talk, people tend to forget what technical specifications the device actually has to show. The phone, which was previously only available in black, is now also available in pink and green. It offers a display with a size of 2.8 inches after opening. In addition, a camera with a resolution of 0.3 MP is used. Bluetooth is on board for wireless connections. The whole thing is rounded off with 48 MB RAM, 128 MB storage and Dual SIM. While all the technical specifications are of course beaten by any current smartphone, there is one discipline in which the clamshell phone is unbeatable. The battery is said to offer a runtime of several weeks. Of course, the classic game par excellence – Snake – should not be missing.

Prices and availability

With the Nokia 2660 Flip, HMD Global could once again give the traditional brand a lot of tailwind. Those interested in the flip phone with an extra dose of retro charm can grab it now for an MSRP of 79.99 euros.
