Nuki: New features for Wear OS

Nuki has introduced new features for Wear OS on Android smartwatches that allow Nuki door locks to be opened directly from the smartwatch.

Door opening without smartphone

Nuki has completely revamped Bluetooth communication with the latest version of Wear OS. From now on, direct communication between smartwatch and door lock is possible. Previously, the smartphone had to be interposed as a kind of bridge, which meant that it always had to be carried along to open doors. In the future, this will no longer be necessary.

In addition, it will now also be possible to open a door remotely directly via the smartwatch, provided it is connected to the Internet. To prevent accidental door openings via the watch, a security query is interposed here. If the wish to open the door is confirmed, it is released.

Wear OS: Smartwatch as control center

Overall, this greatly enhances the role of Wear OS-equipped smartwatches. While they were previously only usable as control centers in combination with a smartphone carried along, they are now also usable on their own. Nuki points to jogging laps or long walks, which many people do without a smartphone, as possible uses.

To facilitate operation via the smartwatch, which is now more prominent, Nuki has also introduced a Wear OS tile. With this, the operation of the Nuki door locks via the smartwatch is possible comfortably and without detours.

Commenting on the changes, Martin Pansy, CEO of Nuki, said: “For us, ‘smart’ has always meant offering people a wide range of opening options [sic!]. Therefore, we are very excited to offer new features and more convenience to all Wear OS smartwatch users with this new update.” All the new features mentioned will become available with a free update of the associated app. This is available immediately.

Overall, Nuki continues on its path of adding features that give users more control options. Most recently, for example, the possibility of a delayed opening under iOS was created.
