After announcing the premiere of the Polestar 3 just a few days ago, the sporty Polestar 5 electric sedan will be shown in action for the first time as a prototype at the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 from June 23 to 26. A whopping 884 horsepower or 650 kW of power slumber under the hood of the electric sports car.

The Polestar 5 prototype will make its debut at the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022 motorsport event on the grounds of Goodwood House in Westhampnett, England. There, Volvo’s electric partner let its sporty sedan hit the asphalt for the first time.
The Polestar 5 sees itself as a high-performance four-door electric GT with genuine sports car qualities. It marks the series development of the Precept concept vehicle, which will be unveiled for the first time in 2020.
“The Polestar 5 is evolving into an excellent four-door GT and is a true Polestar at heart. The platform combines the characteristics of a small-scale production performance car with modern technological advances, bringing the lightweight nature of high-stiffness sports car chassis technology to mass production,” reveals Pete Allen, head of research and development at Polestar UK.
Unique chassis
For the first time, the 5 relies on a unique composite aluminum chassis. Polestar equips its new model with rear-wheel drive, but alternatively offers all-wheel drive. Together with an 800-volt architecture, the Polestar 5 thus has plenty of steam under the hood.
Combined with a powerful front-mounted electric motor, the complete dual motor powertrain is said to have 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm. “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new benchmark for our high-performance vehicles and thus for our brand,” said Jörg Brandscheid, CTO and head of Polestar’s research and development department.
At the 2022 Goodwoof Festival of Speed, the Polestar 5 can be seen in action twice a day in the “First Glance” group. Following the Polestar 3 and 4 electric SUVs, the new model marks what will now be the manufacturer’s third electric vehicle to be launched in the next three years.
According to current information, the market launch of the Polestar 5 is planned for 2024. On YouTube, the manufacturer is also using a documentary series to show how the development of the Precept concept prototype into the production-ready version proceeded.
The new electric sports car also marks a groundbreaking project for the Polestar brand. Its design and advanced technology are expected to “set the tone for Polestar’s future,” elaborates Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. With the Polestar O₂, they also showed an exciting sports car study with an integrated drone in March.
