Skullcandy Push Active: New sports headphones with Skull-iQ presented

Skullcandy has introduced the new Push Active True Wireless in-ear headphones. With the help of the new Skull-iQ platform, the headphones can also be controlled with the user’s own voice, and it will also be used for other headphones from the manufacturer in the future.

TWS headphones without ANC

The Skullcandy Push Active are paired via Bluetooth 5.2 and should, in combination with the charging case, come to a battery life of a whole 44 hours (10 hours for the earphones and another 34 hrs in combination with the charging case). The manufacturer uses specially tuned dynamic drivers that are supposed to provide a high-quality sound. The in-ears do not offer active noise cancellation (ANC), but the passive attenuation is very good according to the manufacturer.

Nevertheless, the communication, which takes place with the help of two microphones, is supposed to be crystal clear – they do have noise suppression after all. The Push Active are protected against dust, water and sweat according to IP55. The built-in ear hook is supposed to keep the in-ear headphones securely in place even during sports.

Similar to the Skullcandy Indy ANC (our review), the Push Active feature a tracking function via Tile. This allows the position of the earphones to be located quickly and easily should they ever get lost.

Voice control with Skull-iQ

The biggest focus of the announcement is the new platform including the voice assistant Skull-iQ. This should make it possible to fully control the Push Active via voice. Besides the possibility to integrate the voice assistants of the smartphones (Siri and Google Assistant), music playback can be controlled with it.

Furthermore, the transparency mode can be turned on and off and Spotify can be operated with the help of Skull-iQ. With a simple “Hey Skullcandy” followed by various commands, controlling the TWS in-ears is supposed to be quick and convenient. How well that actually works in practice remains to be seen. In addition, the Skullcandy Push Active should be able to be equipped with new functions via Skull-IQ in the future.
