Sony: Firmware update brings voice control to PS5

The latest firmware update of the PlayStation 5 is supposed to bring some exciting innovations. For example, version 5.0 should allow you to control Sony’s home console with your voice.

For now, only in UK and USA

Those who don’t speak English won’t really be able to enjoy the voice control coming with version 5.0. After all, this is initially only possible in English. But even if you would dare to communicate accordingly, the use might fail at your place of residence. After all, only PS5 users in the US and UK are supposed to enjoy the new feature for now. In particular, it is supposed to make it easier to open and switch games. However, other settings such as playing movies and/or series should also be possible without any problems, according to Sony.

But an update to firmware version 5.0 should also be worthwhile for users outside of the UK and USA. After all, Sony promises more new features. One new feature expands the customizability of parties. In the future, you will have the choice between open and closed voice chats. In addition, the sometimes confusing library should now be able to offer a bit more of an overview. Sony promises the possibility to filter titles by genre.

While accessibility has played a big role at Microsoft for quite some time, Sony now seems to be slowly but surely addressing this issue. With the latest software update, the PS5 offers a number of new options for people with physical disabilities. For example, not only a stereo signal will be possible in the future. Mono sound should make it easier for people with limited hearing to hear the in-game sound.

Also for PS4 users

Not only PlayStation 5 owners will be able to enjoy the latest update; it will also be available for download on the PS4. In terms of scope, however, you have to do without the voice control there. The other features will also find their way onto Sony’s older home console.
