Synology Plus Series: New HDDs specifically for NAS systems

Synology, a leading provider of network storage solutions, has introduced its Plus series of hard drives. This new series of 3.5-inch SATA HDDs is specifically designed for use in Synology NAS systems and is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses. The Plus series offers capacities ranging from 4 to 12 terabytes and is optimized for continuous operation in NAS systems.

Technical details and performance

Plus Series hard drives use Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) technology, which offers better performance, reliability and durability compared to Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) technology. All models have a speed of 5,400 rpm, except for the 12 TB model, which operates at 7,200 rpm. The drives offer a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 1 million hours and a workload rating of 180 TB per year, about three times that of traditional desktop drives.

Firmware updates and compatibility

Synology has designed the firmware updates for the Plus Series to be updated directly in the DiskStation Manager (DSM) of the Synology storage system. When a firmware update is available for the HDDs, the user will be notified in the DSM and can update all drives automatically.

Price and Availability

The Plus Series HDDs are available in stores now. Prices vary depending on storage capacity, ranging from 106 euros for the 4 TB model to 296 euros for the 12 TB model.
