Vivo X80 Pro: Camera flagship smartphone from July for 1,299 euros in Germany

Comparatively shortly after the release in China, the flagship smartphone Vivo X80 Pro is launched in Germany. The camera smartphone will be launched in Germany as early as July. However, the price of 1,299 Euros is steep.

Vivo X80 Pro in detail

The Pro models from Vivo are primarily known for their strong cameras outside of Europe. The brand has also been active in Germany for almost two years, but flies rather under the radar with its mid-range smartphones of the X, Y and V series.

However, that could change soon with the Vivo X80 Pro, which was only introduced in China in April this year and will also come to Germany in July. At least if you are willing to dig a bit deeper into your pocket.

Here, Vivo relies on a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with WQHD+ resolution (3200 x 1440 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The touch rate is 300 Hz, while the display typically gets up to 1,000 nits, and even 1,500 nits at its peak. This is on par with the current S22 top models from Samsung.

The latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm is used as the SoC, which the manufacturer combines with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 flash memory. Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12 is used as the operating system of the 219-gram X80 Pro.

Battery, connectivity and more

The battery of the Vivo X80 Pro is 4,700 mAh, which could possibly become problematic with the combination of SoC and display. Charging is done with a maximum of 80 watts via USB Type C (FlashCharge) or wirelessly with a maximum of 50 watts.

The manufacturer uses Xensation Up Schott glass on the front and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on the back. The frame is made of aluminum. In addition, the X80 Pro is of course 5G-capable, supports Wi-Fi 6 and transmits via Bluetooth 5.2. NFC is of course also available, just like an IP68 certification that promises water resistance.

The installed stereo speakers promise Hi-Res audio thanks to LDAC and aptX HD codecs, and there is also an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the display (like Samsung). Unfortunately, the Vivo smartphone does not offer a micoSD card slot or a 3.5 mm jack.

The camera setup of the Vivo X80 Pro

Things get interesting when it comes to the cameras of the Vivo X80 Pro, which have been the focus of the Pro models for years. On the back, the smartphone relies on a total of four cameras that were developed together with Zeiss. Similar to the Sony Xperia 1 IV, a Zeiss T branding is used here. In addition, a co-processor for image processing is used here with the Vivo V1+.

The 50-megapixel main camera of the X80 Pro uses the Samsung Isocell GNV, a modified version of the GN1 in a 1/1.31-inch format. The aperture also turns out to be very fast at f/1.6, and there is also optical image stabilization.

There is also a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2), which is also responsible for macro shots, and a periscope zoom camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS. The fourth in the bunch is a 12 MP portrait camera (f/1.9, 50 mm focal length) with dual optical zoom and gimbal stabilization. A selfie cam with a resolution of 32 megapixels sits at the front in a centrally placed punch hole.

Price and Availability

The Vivo X80 Pro is expected to be released in this country during July 2022. Thereby, the manufacturer’s MSRP is 1,299 euros, which is quite steep. After all, the smartphone cost the equivalent of less than 900 Euros at its market launch in April.
