Well prepared for the summer – battery pool robots are in vogue

In many areas of our everyday lives, we have long since said goodbye to corded devices. In the pool, however, cables are still the order of the day: battery-powered pool robots are still not standard. In the meantime, however, they are in vogue and are conquering pool after pool. What distinguishes them and why such a device can be quite useful, we tell you below!

Classic vs. rechargeable pool robots

Classic pool robots look monstrous and hang from a long cable. Together with this cable, they are placed in the pool, which they henceforth clean of dirt for about two hours. Such cleaning should be done regularly to remove debris and ensure basic hygiene. Especially in spring and summer, pool robots are therefore increasingly used.

To keep a pool hygienic, it must be cleaned regularly.

Cable-operated devices have the advantage that they can be used for hours at a stretch. In addition, however, they also bring with them some disadvantages. Probably the biggest one is that they also take up space outside the pool due to the long cable. Between the nearest power outlet – which is sometimes far away – and the pool stretches a long cable, which can become a tripping hazard or, for example, make a considerable part of the terrace temporarily unusable.

Classic electric pool robots come with a long cable.

With a battery pool robot, this can be avoided. It is – as the name already reveals – provided with a rechargeable battery. Therefore, it does not need a cable and does not require any space outside the pool. The only disadvantage that must be accepted is that only a limited runtime is available before the device must be recharged. However, this is bearable for private pools, which are usually not too large. A good example of such a battery-powered pool robot is the Zodiac Freerider FR 5400 iQ. It lasts for two and a half hours, which is enough for a complete cleaning, and can be fully charged within four hours.

The road to the rechargeable pool robot

For several years, pool robots have been primarily used for pool cleaning. Before that, pool cleaning was long dominated by pool vacuums. These differ significantly from the pool robots. They are not electrically operated, but are connected to the pool’s filter system. They draw their cleaning power from the suction power of the filter system. The biggest disadvantage of this solution, which initially seems very practical, is that the vacuums cannot move through the pool on their own. They have to be controlled by hand, which makes cleaning a laborious process. Furthermore, they are only suitable for small pools – otherwise, comprehensive cleaning of the entire floor cannot be ensured. Therefore, if you want to clean your pool professionally, you should resort to a pool robot.

Care pool robot properly

Primarily, the proper care of the pool robot is important. If it is equipped with a rechargeable battery, this includes regularly checking the charge. In addition, the robot must be cleaned after each use. Basically, it is sufficient to rinse it with clean water and then let it dry on its transport trolley. Lightly soapy water can also be used. In addition, the filter, which absorbs all the dirt, must be changed regularly.

If autumn sets in, it is important to store the pool robot well. In particular, protection from water is important: if it is exposed to such weather throughout the fall and winter without further care or drying possibility, the material can be attacked. This in turn shortens the service life of the battery-powered pool robot.
