Xiaomi shows exciting concept smartphone with revolutionary display

For some time now, Xiaomi has not only distinguished itself as a manufacturer of smartphones at a good value for money. On top of that, the Chinese tech company is a real driver when it comes to innovations in consumer electronics. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Xiaomi has once again presented a new concept smartphone. The “Quad-curved Waterfall Display Concept Smartphone” shows exactly what the name suggests. This is a revolutionary display that makes you want more.

Display is the focus

Year after year, smartphone manufacturers put more and more power into their small everyday companions. The high-performance CPUs, which come with a lot of RAM in the double-digit GB range, can rarely be used to their full potential. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Xiaomi leaves the innards out of the presentation of its special concept smartphone. The focus is clearly on the device’s display. At first glance, the display with its rounded corners reminds us of the either beloved or hated curved design from Samsung. However, Xiaomi has taken this basic idea to the extreme in its concept smartphone. There are not only rounded edges on the sides of the display. They are also on the top and bottom.

The manufacturer makes this possible with a revolutionary manufacturing process. The display glass is exposed to temperatures of 800 degrees and bent into the corresponding shape. The display is perfected by a large number of polishing processes. But that’s not all. The display is then given a special lamination. This is to ensure that the glass can withstand the stress caused by the bending. The end result should be an impressive display performance on the main screen as well as on the rounded edges. The smartphone does without classic speakers completely. Instead, Xiaomi relies on an ultra-thin piezoelectric ceramic, which in combination with the special foil screen sound technology is supposed to replace both speakers and earpiece.

Is this the future?

The Chinese company has shown a really exciting technology with its concept smartphone. However, it is questionable whether the market is big enough for it. What is certain is that many users do not like curved displays. The reasons for this are not only the looks and handling. On top of that, repair work on curved displays costs much more than on conventional flat models. Nevertheless, you have to take your hat off to Xiaomi. After all, the company does not rest on its laurels, but tries to constantly develop further. And they could definitely establish an exciting feature with one point. The omission of the earpiece and speakers is revolutionary. Other manufacturers could also jump on this bandwagon.
