Arctic Summair Plus Test – table fan with integrated battery

The German company Arctic has specialized in low-noise computer cooling since its founding in 2001 and offers fans, such as the P12 Max (review), air coolers and AiO cooling for a few years now. With the Summair and the Summair Plus, they are now expanding the range with two fans that should also provide the user with some cooling during the hot days. In the test, we take a closer look at the Arctic Summair Plus, which differs from the Summair mainly due to its battery.

The Arctic Summair Plus has a fan wheel with a diameter of 112 mm. The speed of the fan can be manually controlled between 600 and 3,300 rpm. The fan is powered by a 2,800 mAh battery that is charged via USB-C. The cable is detachable.

The cheaper Arctic Summair also has a fan wheel with a diameter of 112 mm, but the maximum speed of 2,800 rpm is slightly lower. Furthermore, the Summair does without a battery. The cable is fixed and has a USB-A port. There are no other differences, both fans are available in black and white.

Scope of delivery

The Arctic Summair Plus comes in a compact brown cardboard box. On the front you can find a drawing of the fan, further Arctic refers once again to the battery, the color and 6-year warranty. On the back, you can also find the fan’s technical specifications and a QR code that leads to the manual.

In addition to the fan, the package includes a 1.20m USB-C to USB-A cable for charging the battery.

Design and workmanship

  • Modern design and good workmanship
  • Fan can be tilted from 0 to 90°

Arctic focuses on a modern and sleek design for the Summair Plus. The fan consists of the tiltable fan and a stand and is hardly larger than the fan itself due to its round shape in length and width. In front of the fan is a removable grille whose design is reminiscent of the shape of the fan blades, and there is also an Arctic logo in the center. Behind the fan, on the other hand, there is no grille but only individual struts, which makes the fan freely accessible. This should always be kept in mind during operation.

The tiltable fan is connected to the stand via a hinge. This allows an inclination of 0 to 90° and looks very stable. The fan stays permanently in the set angle. On the opposite side of the hinge is the USB-C port and three LEDs that signal the battery status. A rotary control serves as an on/off switch and for adjusting the fan speed. There are also rubber pads all around the bottom of the stand to prevent the 320-g fan from slipping.

When it comes to materials, Arctic relies on plastic, and the black model we tested has a slight shine to it. Workmanship is good throughout, we didn’t notice any sharp edges or other flaws

Practical test of the Arctic Summair Plus

  • Adjustable fan speed
  • Easy to operate via rotary control
  • long battery life of 14 hours (at 1,500 rpm)

The Arctic Summair Plus leaves a good impression in the test. The fan has an attractive design and is very compact, which makes it easy to fit on the desk or other places. Thanks to the hinge, the fan’s tilt angle can be adjusted easily and, in our opinion, sufficiently. Furthermore, the fan can be stored well when folded and also transported, for example, if you want to take it to the office. The fan itself is well protected during transport.

The airflow of the Summair Plus is only very weak at the lowest speed, but it becomes noticeable as the speed increases. The volume also increases significantly with speed. At low speed the fan is quiet but always perceptible, at maximum speed it is very loud and annoying. In practice, the medium speed range is a good compromise. We find the switching on and off via controller successful, since we only need one control element for everything this way. The controller is easy to reach even when the fan is tilted more and the open back of the fan was not a problem in the test. This is probably more of a problem in households with smaller children or even curious animals.

The integrated battery could convince us. We determined a battery life of 2 hours and 40 minutes at maximum speed and even over 30 hours at lowest speed. Both rates are above the manufacturer’s specifications. The 14 hours at medium speed, our preferred setting, seem realistic. The battery can be fully charged within 3 hours via USB-C. We see the battery and detachable cable as big advantages over the Summair.

Arctic Summair Plus review: conclusion

The Arctic Summair Plus turns out to be a practical gadget for the hot days of the year in the test. The fan convinces with an appealing design, good workmanship and a wide speed range, which allows for a noticeable cooling at an acceptable volume. Furthermore, the fan can be transported well due to the hinge and can also be used very flexibly due to the battery. Those who have small children or curious animals might be bothered by the missing grille on the back, but apart from that we don’t see any points of criticism. The price of 29€ (as of 30.07.2023) is justified for what is offered.
