Eufy X8 Pro Test: Ideal for pet owners?

If you take a look at the market for robot vacuums, it brings back memories of the first smartphones. Anyone who has such a smart household helper often no longer wants to do without it. On the other hand, those who still clean their homes with a classic vacuum cleaner sometimes don’t know what such an upgrade is supposed to do. The Eufy Clean X8 Pro may not be a revolution for the robot vacuum market. But for newcomers in the field of smart household helpers, it could be the perfect entry into the world of fully automatic cleaning systems. Especially for all those who have one or more four-legged friends at home. This is not only due to the high ease of use that the Anker subsidiary wants to offer here. On top of that, high suction power as well as the special main brush should be able to fight pet hair. In the Eufy Clean X8 Pro test, we want to clarify whether this model is actually the perfect entry into this segment or you should rather reach for another device of the highly competitive middle class.

Scope of delivery

In the package are with suction robot and suction station, of course, the main protagonists of this ensemble. Furthermore, Eufy encloses a matching power cord. The practical plastic mat is especially interesting for owners of wooden floors. Here, namely scratches and especially the moisture penetration of the floor are avoided.

Eufy also includes a handy cleaning tool for occasional cleaning of the components. Last but not least, there is the mop attachment and the instruction manual. I find it a bit of a shame that no additional dust bag is included. Thus, you can not avoid buying a new one after just under a month and a half.

Eufy X8 Pro review: matt design that pleases!

The X8 Pro is not the first vacuum robot from eufy that we put under the microscope. Almost one and a half years ago, we already took a look at the G20 Hybrid (test). However, I would not recognize that both come from the Anker subsidiary if the company logo was not emblazoned on the top. And that has several reasons. Firstly, eufy opted for a high-gloss look for its H20 Hybrid. While this may have been a real eye-catcher, experience has shown that it is also extremely susceptible to scratches, ugly finger dabs and clearly visible dust deposits.

eufy x8 pro test

I was all the more pleased to see that the X8 Pro comes in a completely matte design. This proved to be pleasingly resistant over the entire test phase. Another difference can already be seen in the dimensions. At 35.4 x 35.3 x 9.9 cm, the X8 Pro is significantly taller than the G20 Hybrid, which was only 7 cm high. This is due to the small LiDAR tower on the top of the X8 Pro. This is where the iPath laser navigation works.

Furthermore, we find three buttons on the top, which make a rudimentary control possible even without an app. You can reach the interior dust container via the maintenance flap and can see a status LED. On the front, we find a bumper as well as the required technology for object detection. On the other hand, the water tank is located on the back, which can be easily removed. On the underside, in turn, is the suction unit.

Eufy X8 Pro test: main brush with detangling

I find it a bit of a shame that the X8 Pro comes without a fully rubberized main brush. Instead, eufy relies on a combination of rubber and bristles. From experience, this is very prone to tangling pet hair. However, the manufacturer promises to have taken sufficient precautions here.

Special blades are supposed to ensure that pet hair is combed down, so to speak, after each cleaning session to prevent the problem. We’ll clarify how this works in practice at a later date.

Besides the suction unit, you can also find the wiping unit on the bottom. All in all, the X8 Pro scores with a high build quality where there is no reason to complain. Everything feels high-quality and it doesn’t crack or creak at any point.

Eufy X8 Pro review: less stress with suction station

The eufy X8 Pro comes with a matching suction station. This should make the use of the smart household helper as stress-free as possible for you. It ensures that you do not have to worry about emptying the dust container. Everything is done on your own. After the cleaning tour is complete, the robot vacuum cleaner returns to the station and vacuums up the collected debris without further ado. This process only takes a few seconds.

There’s a dust bag inside the station itself, and all you have to do is dispose of it every 45 days and replace it with a new one. It’s a shame that the Anker subsidiary doesn’t swim against the tide here and launch an eco-friendly solution without a dust bag. The design language of the suction station and the vacuum robot harmonize wonderfully. Together, they create an attractive overall picture that can easily be placed visibly in the living room. And the X8 Pro should definitely be visible.

Finally, together with the self-emptying station, it is, of course, much higher than its counterpart without the handy gadget. Hiding it under a piece of furniture is thus almost impossible. You should be aware of that if you are thinking of buying this model. The construction of the extraction station is self-explanatory. For example, you can reach the dust bag via the easy-to-open lid on the top to dispose of it after a month and a half of cleaning and replace it with a new one.

Eufy X8 Pro review: quick setup

The setup of the robot vacuum cleaner is blazingly fast. This is especially due to the fact that both the robot and the station are completely set up at the factory. You actually only have to find a suitable workstation for the two devices. A nearby outlet for the power plug is mandatory. Fill the water tank and the vacuum cleaner is ready for use. Theoretically, you can send the smart household helper on a cleaning tour from this point on. The three buttons on the top are available for this. However, the operating and setting options are somewhat limited this way. It is therefore highly advisable to install the eufy app. This allows you to use the entire range of functions of the robot.

The app itself has light and dark sides. On the one hand, it scores with a great overview. Setting up the vacuum is also quick to do here. The focus is on the integration into the home network. After the X8 Pro has been “transferred” to your own network, you can also control it on the go. However, eufy leaves newcomers to the field of robotic vacuum cleaners out in the cold. There is simply a lack of introductory information on the various setting options. This means that those who don’t have enough time to play around in the menu sometimes don’t even get to fully enjoy the device’s extensive features.

However, if this is not your first robot vacuum cleaner or if you simply have the stamina to try out the functions yourself, the application scores with good usability. Once you have an overview of the possibilities, you will get an extremely useful software. You can make essential settings like suction strength via a handy quick access. In more detailed menus, you can also select certain rooms on the map that are to be cleaned. No-go areas that should be off-limits for the vacuum cleaner can also be defined. After closer contact with the eufy app, I consequently could not think of any setting option that I missed.

Eufy X8 Pro review: navigation

In the app, you can also let off steam in the area of map management. For example, you can adjust the floor plan of your own four walls and assign rooms. This enables the targeted cleaning of individual rooms. The basis for this is a floor plan of your premises. The map is created during the first cleaning tour. Here the robot relies on LiDAR technology.

eufy_x8_pro_test

This one goes by the name iPath. A big advantage of laser navigation is the fact that it works reliably and, above all, quickly even in absolute darkness. The mapping is also pleasantly fast in the X8 Pro. The result also corresponds to the original floor plan. However, we have to complain a bit about the object recognition.

In practice, this sometimes leaves something to be desired, as it simply seems overwhelmed in some situations. This is especially the case with small objects. Thus, you should not leave too difficult challenges to the sensors at the front. It’s best to try to move small objects like cables, LEGO bricks and flat magazines out of the way.

Eufy X8 Pro review: practical test

Now let’s move on to the supreme discipline – cleaning performance. All those who dare to enter the world of vacuum robots with the X8 Pro will be thrilled by the first practical test. After all, the little cleaning helper navigates through your premises skillfully and, above all, quickly. It gives the impression that it always knows where to go and where not to go. The sensors at the front help it to avoid larger obstacles like chair and table legs. If the whole thing does go wrong, the bumper at the front skillfully prevents damage to the furniture and the robot vacuum cleaner.

Unfortunately, the wiping surface only sits rigidly on the underside.

In practice, I noticed the quiet operation of the robot vacuum. This only changes when the smart household helper drives over a carpet. Then it automatically turns up the suction power. It recognizes the surface thanks to sensors on the underside. In this case, the device uses its good 4,000 pascal suction power to the fullest, which is of course audible. Eufy relies on two turbines here, which skillfully free even dirty carpets from pet hair in practice. The end result can be seen on pretty much all floors.

You can reach the water tank at the back

As the owner of two longhaired cats and a golden retriever, I was amazed to find that eufy actually backs up its words with actions here and delivers great results. The wiping function is again more of a goodie than a serious feature. Similar to the Roborock Q8 Max+ (test), you only get a rigid wiping surface that can’t really do anything to stubborn stains. So there’s no getting around the occasional swing of the mop.

Eufy X8 Pro review: maintenance and battery

Eufy promotes its X8 Pro as the perfect vacuum robot for pet owners. On the one hand, this is due to the strong suction power including duo-turbine technology. On the other hand, it has a practical self-cleaning function of the main brush. If you take a closer look at the underside, you will discover a kind of metal comb right next to the main brush. This is supposed to untangle the main brush, so to speak. After the cleaning tour is complete, the brush turns in the opposite direction and is untangled by the comb.

The transparent pad is meant to protect your floor

This is supposed to save you, the pet owner, the annoying cleaning of the main brush. In practice, the principle has actually paid off. Since the vacuum robot untangles its main brush itself, I didn’t miss a fully rubberized main brush either. There is also hardly anything to complain about in terms of battery life. Thus, the vacuum robot lasted on my test area with a floor space of just under 45 m² without any problems. At the end, there was still just under 85% battery capacity left. That should probably be fully sufficient for normal-sized apartments and houses.

Eufy X8 Pro test: problems with zone cleaning

You dropped a drink on the floor or your dog has again brought extensive dirt from outside to inside? Then the so-called zone cleaning is a proven and especially time-saving means to clean certain places again extensively. With zone cleaning, you select a specific area on the map that the robot vacuum cleaner is supposed to clean. Defining such a zone in the app is not difficult either, which is largely due to the fact that you can zoom into the map. I only discovered the real problem afterwards.

When I started the zone cleaning, the vacuum robot unceremoniously did not follow its instruction. Instead, after leaving the suction station, it simply stopped and paused. As if frozen, it then pointed out to me that it could not perform zone cleaning. The reason he gave was that he simply could not reach the desired zone. Curiously, however, he was able to drive to the area in question without any problems during normal cleaning. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find out a real cause for the problem until the end of testing.

You can also start spot cleaning via the control panel.

The confusion on my part was mainly because the vacuum cleaner otherwise worked flawlessly. It also skirted invisible walls expertly. Perhaps a future update in the app can fix the problem. Perhaps it is simply a feature in my floor plan that proved to be an insurmountable problem for the robot. Personally, I only used the feature to test it once. In practice, I never actually resort to zone cleaning. On the other hand, those who do it regularly should keep this problem in mind.

Conclusion

Finally comes the pressing question of whether the purchase of the Eufy Clean X8 Pro is really worth it. The short and sweet answer is that it depends. And it depends on what you expect from a robot vacuum cleaner. In the mid-range, the Eufy is definitely one of the better devices. But of course, you can’t expect the features of a flagship like the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra (test) or the Dreame L20 Ultra (test). Nevertheless, it offers a few basic features that a smart household helper should be able to do at a really fair price. This already starts with the chic design and the high build quality. In addition, LiDAR ensures great navigation. However, the real highlight is the suction function.

With its suction system consisting of two 4,000 pascal turbines, the device says war on any dust and especially pet hair. Very well I liked the automatic untangling of the main brush. Especially pet owners should be happy about this. Your pets themselves will probably like the quiet operation of the robot vacuum. However, there are also a few points where eufy should improve. One is the wiping function, which has to give up on stubborn stains with its rigid wiping surface. I would also welcome a tutorial in the app. Newcomers can’t avoid experimenting on their own. However, I would not be surprised if eufy improves this a bit with an app update. Apart from that, however, the Eufy Clean X8 Pro is a really good vacuum robot that is especially interesting for pet owners.

89/100

The Eufy X8 Pro scores with great suction results and a detangling function that should especially please pet owners. Only the wiping performance is lacking.
