EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: design and workmanship

Anyone who has ever seen a robot vacuum will quickly recognize the EZVIZ RE4 Plus as such. This is due to its circular shape, which it has in common with many other models in the industry. The dimensions of 345 x 345 x 95 mm are also standard. A weight of 3.1 kg ensures that you can carry it comfortably.

There are no big surprises in the other features either. The LiDAR sensor, which is concealed under a small turret, is located on the observer side. There is also a small control unit here, which you can use to start or stop the robot hoover and send it back to its suction station.

There is a bumper at the front to prevent damage to the robot hoover and your furniture in the event of a collision. IR sensors are located on the sides to prevent collisions in the first place. We’ll find out later whether this works. There is also a toggle switch on the back for switching the device on and off.

Last but not least, there is a combination container at the back, which holds a 300 ml water tank and the dust container. If you turn the robot hoover upside down, you can see the suction and mopping unit on the underside. The RE4 Plus also has a practical side brush.

The suction station speaks the same design language. It also features a matt white finish and small black accents. Under the lid, you have access to the dust bag, which you only need to replace every 90 days.

All in all, EZVIZ delivers a really high quality of workmanship. The only thing I can complain about is the choice of material for the robot vacuum’s main brush. A combination of rubber and bristles is used here. This means that tangled hair is inevitable, which pet owners should keep in mind.

EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: Getting started

The RE4 Plus is quick and easy to set up. First, you need to find a suitable place for the suction station. Bear in mind that the station is higher than the Robo and will therefore certainly not fit under a sideboard. Once connected to the socket using the power cable, the smart household helper has already found its home.

Now switch on the robot vacuum itself using the toggle switch and start it. Then download the EZVIZ app and add the RE4 Plus as a new device. To do this, simply scan the QR code on the device and enter your WiFi data. The robot is then in your home network and ready to receive commands.

First, you send him on an exploratory tour of your home so that he gets to know his working environment. On its maiden voyage, it creates an initial map of your home. Depending on the size of your four walls, this may take a few minutes. At the end, you will receive a complete floor plan that you can edit in the EZVIZ app.

EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: EZVIZ App

In practice, the EZVIZ app scores with useful setting options and a good overview. Even newcomers will quickly find their way around. The app may not be able to keep up visually with its Dreame and Roborock counterparts, but that didn’t really bother me. After all, I didn’t miss anything in the application.

For example, you can make settings on the map. You can adjust the room layout, create no-go zones and define specific cleaning areas. You can also make cleaning settings. There are four suction levels and four mopping levels to choose from. You can also define a cleaning schedule with set times.

This means you don’t have to start every cleaning job manually, but can have the robot run whenever you are at work, for example. Incidentally, control is not only possible via the control unit on the device itself and the EZVIZ app. You can also control the RE4 Plus with your voice. This is made possible by compatibility with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: navigation and obstacle detection

The EZVIZ RE4 Plus uses a LiDAR sensor for mapping and navigation. This is located on the top of the device and can find its way around your home even in complete darkness. It did not make any mistakes during the test. The device always scanned my rooms accurately. Once the edge had been cleaned, the smart household helper then scanned the interior in subways.

The Robo can be switched on and off in a flash using the toggle switch. Practical and unfortunately not a matter of course

The fact that we are in a rather low price category for robotic vacuum cleaners unfortunately becomes clear when it comes to obstacle detection. Unlike the EZVIZ RS2 (test), the RE4 Plus does not rely on optical object detection using a camera. Instead, IR sensors are used.

These actually only work with larger objects. This means that you don’t have to worry about the health of your children or pets. However, I wouldn’t leave cables, toys and other smaller objects unattended in the room. These are regularly overlooked. The bumper on the front of the vacuum cleaner ensures that no damage occurs.

EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: suction power

The EZVIZ RE4 Plus has a maximum suction power of 4,000 pascals. This is not a record value, but it is more than enough for hard floors. The vacuum cleaner scored well in the test with good dirt pick-up on parquet, vinyl and tiles.

However, it was not strong enough for carpets. The robot vacuum was only able to remove dirt from the surface. This should not be a problem for short-pile carpets. However, if you have a carpet with long fibers, you should bear this in mind.

Unfortunately, my fears about the main brush came true in the practical test. Pet hair got tangled up here, but I was able to remove it using the cleaning tool provided. An Eufy X10 Pro Omni (test) works much better here despite the same choice of material.

The suction station, on the other hand, has nothing to complain about when it comes to suction power. It can boast an impressive 28,000 pascals. Once the cleaning tour is complete, it vacuums the Robo for around ten to 20 seconds and empties the dust container without leaving any residue.

EZVIZ RE4 Plus test: mopping performance

Nowadays, no robot vacuum cleaner manufacturer dares to launch a device without a mopping function. This is also the case with the RE4 Plus. Unfortunately, the rigid mopping surface is more of a goodie than a really useful feature. In the test, I was not at all convinced by the whole thing.

You mount the wiping surface on the underside

You will notice a clear difference in the results compared to models that have rotating mops or can at least move the mop surface on the floor by means of vibration. The best example here is a Roborock Q8 Max (test). I would skip the mop altogether if the floor is really dirty.

As the cloth is not rinsed in between, the robot hoover simply spreads the dirt that has already been collected on your floors. This is not only unhygienic, but also doesn’t look good. If you want a good mopping function, you simply have to spend more money. The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat (test) is a real value-for-money winner here.

Conclusion

The biggest selling point of the EZVIZ RE4 Plus is its price. Here you get a stylish design, high build quality, modern navigation, suction station, uncomplicated operation, good suction power on hard floors and long battery life for the price of just under 300 euros. Many people will overlook the weak points. The RE4 Plus has these too. For example, object detection is anything but reliable. The suction performance on carpets is also only satisfactory.

What I personally found most annoying was the mopping function. In my opinion, EZVIZ could have done without this and instead installed a little more suction power or at least a main brush made entirely of rubber. But with all the complaining, you shouldn’t forget the price tag. In the end, it’s still a real value-for-money tip that you should definitely take a look at if you don’t want to spend too much money on a solid robot vacuum.
