ViewSonic VP2768 – Professional Monitor with Hardware Calibration under Test

The VP2768 is the latest WQHD monitor from ViewSonic – a graphics monitor for all those who rely on faithful colour output, such as graphic artists or photographers. It covers the sRGB color space with 99 percent and can be calibrated on the hardware side. The maximum color fidelity offered by the ViewSonic VP2768 will satisfy even the most demanding users. And our test shows that the 27-inch monitor scores well in all areas.

The display is equipped with a WQHD-IPS panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and offers a viewing angle of up to 178 degrees. This is already pre-calibrated at the factory. Thanks to the colorimeters of X-Rite, the hardware calibration is also possible. This guarantees that the colour accuracy of Delta E<2 is permanently maintained. With a 14-bit 3D LUT, the ViewSonic VP2768 calculates this color accuracy and can output a palette of 4.3 billion colors. With 350 cd/m² it also achieves a high maximum brightness.

The numerous ports feature a daisy-chain function that allows the ViewSonic VP2768 to be easily connected to multiple monitors, resulting in an almost seamless screen. The frame of the monitor is hardly present with approximately 2 mm. The display has an additional frame on the display area of 5 mm. Otherwise there are no switches or other features on the front that could distract from the picture.

The ViewSonic VP2768 is designed in discreet black and does without any superfluous details. But the used material and a slight curvature let the monitor look very elegant and noble. The curved support leg, which is divided in the middle, contributes to the fact that the monitor does not appear massive despite the screen diagonal of 27 inches, but blends inconspicuously into the surroundings.

Design and workmanship

The materials used are of high quality and the design looks noble and elegant despite – or precisely because of – its simplicity.

The ViewSonic VP2768 is in matt black, only the monitor holder on the back is in silver. The base of the stand is clad in black fibered plastic with the ViewSonic logo engraved on a high-gloss plastic plate.

The metal plate, which is located underneath the cladding, ensures a secure stand, not least because of the non-slip rubber feet. It is easy to attach the monitor to the stand. The stand can be clicked into two small recesses on the back and then fastened with four screws.

The high-quality finish and the very narrow edge around the panel are particularly noteworthy. The display surface itself has a frame of approximately 5 mm, the very discreet plastic frame of the monitor itself is even only 2 mm wide. The transition is seamless and completely flush with the plastic frame on the back. You won’t find so much precision work with every manufacturer, not even in this price range.

Ergonomics and operation

The ViewSonic VP2768 also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of ergonomics. The panel can be rotated by up to 60 degrees both to the left and to the right by means of a swivel joint without great effort. The height of the monitor can be adjusted by up to 13 cm. In addition, it can be tilted forward by up to minus 5 degrees and backward by plus 21 degrees. But that’s not all: the monitor can be tilted up to 90 degrees and can be used in portrait and landscape format.

All control buttons are located on the back of the monitor so that nothing on the front distracts from the picture. One of the six control buttons is a power switch, the other five have different functions. So you can adjust the contrast and brightness as well as the input source. The blue light filter ensures that work is easy on the eyes, especially in the evening. This results in less melatonin being released from the body.

Display and calibration function

Thanks to 99% sRGB ink coverage, vibrant, rich colors are produced and industrial color standards are 100% met. The absolutely precise accuracy of the representation is achieved with the colour accuracy of Delta E<2. Imaging is uniform, lifelike and permanently brilliant.

In collaboration with X-rite’s color management experts, ViewSonic Colorbration software has developed a solution that makes it possible to calibrate the hardware. The coordination between the graphics card and the monitor scaler is supported in this way and ensures accurate colour reproduction in the long term.

For the hardware calibration of the ViewSonic VP2768 you need the X-rite CS-XRi1, the I1 Display pro or the I1 pro2 Calibrator. The software for the hardware calibration is included on the CD, which is included in the scope of delivery.

Connections and daisy chain

The ViewSonic VP2768 has plenty of ports, including

  • twice HDMI
  • one Display Port
  • One Mini Display Port
  • four USB 3.0 ports and
  • one audio output.

An additional display port serves as an output so that the input can be routed across multiple devices. With the so-called daisy chain principle, several hardware components can be coupled together. This gives you more flexibility when connecting multiple monitors. The work surface remains tidy thanks to cleanly laid cables.

Conclusion

The ViewSonic VP2768 is the perfect colour monitor for demanding users such as photographers, graphic artists or videographers who edit their files in sRGB or REC709 profiles. It leaves nothing to be desired in terms of technical equipment, workmanship and appearance and offers a number of interesting features. The price-performance ratio is very good.
