ASUS ROG Strix G17 and ROG Strix SCAR 17: Gaming notebooks with the latest AMD chips

The lineup of gaming notebooks in the Republic of Gamers series from ASUS continues to expand, after all, they introduced numerous new products at CES 2023. After the 16-inch Zephyrus M16 and ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 at the end of March, the 17-inch ASUS ROG Strix G17 and ROG Strix SCAR 17 gaming notebooks now follow, which rely on current AMD processors up to the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX.

The ASUS ROG Strix G17 in detail

With the ASUS ROG Strix G17 (G713), you once again have a choice. On the one hand, as far as the components are concerned, because the gaming notebook is offered with an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU at the top, which should provide excellent gaming performance in combination.

On the other hand, there is also the display – which we already know from ASUS. The 17.3-inch display offers a choice between a super-fast 240Hz NanoEdge WQHD display (2560×1440) with a 3ms response time or a Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display with 144Hz.

They both cover the DCI-P3 color space to a full 100%, are capable of NVIDIA G-Sync, as well as Advanced Optimus. Dolby Vision HDR is also available.

In terms of RAM, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 relies on DDR5-4800 RAM in two SO-DIMMs, which can be expanded up to 32 GB. Depending on the model, 8 GB or 16 GB are pre-installed ex-works – so the 16 should definitely be it if you really want to play with the part. In addition, there is 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage in each case.

Otherwise, all notebook variants are heavily equipped and support, for example, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, offer Dolby Atmos speakers including Smart Amp technology and much more. The 90 Wh battery promises good runtimes, and the included 280-Watt power adapter is used for charging. At 2.80 kg, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 is certainly no lightweight.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 for that little bit more

Positioning itself above that is the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (G733), which even combines the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor at its peak with the latest high-end graphics unit in the form of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090.

The 17-inch device features a QHD 240Hz panel with fast refresh rates and response times of just 3 ms and a peak brightness of 300 nits. Thanks to the latest cooling technology and liquid metal cooling on the CPU and GPU, the gaming notebook always operates as quiet as a whisper.

Furthermore, there is already a choice of 16 GB or 32 GB of working memory ex-works, which can be expanded up to 64 gigabytes. It is also available as DDR5-4800 RAM. As for the PCIe 4.0 SSD, one or even two terabytes of memory are available.

Otherwise, the SCAR 17 notebook largely relies on the same specifications as the Strix G17, but charges the 90-Wh battery even faster thanks to a 330-Watt power supply. The massive gaming notebook weighs in at 3.00 kilograms.

Prices and Availability

Both of ASUS’ gaming notebooks are available in stores now. The 2023 ASUS ROG Strix G17 starts from 1,999 euros, while the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (G733) is available from 3,399 euros in Germany.
