Blackmagic Cloud Pod turns USB-C drives into network storage

With the Blackmagic Cloud Pod, manufacturer Blackmagic Design has released an exciting gadget that allows any USB-C drive to be used as network storage. Thanks to 10G high-speed Ethernet and Dropbox synchronization, files can be cached locally and shared with any network. Status can be displayed in real time thanks to HDMI monitoring output.

Blackmagic Cloud Pod in detail

Not only, but also with regard to its own video editing tools, Blackmagic Design launches the new Blackmagic Cloud Pod. It is thus suitable for film and television projects, for example, as it allows files recorded on USB-C drives to be made available to multiple editors and colorists across the network.

Depending on the brand and speed of the connected USB-C drive, the pod can even handle 12K digital film files in Blackmagic RAW. Since the Blackmagic Cloud Pod itself has no internal storage, the manufacturer was able to allow for a slim and compact design.

With two USB-C ports, the Cloud Pod supports two separate USB drives at the same time on the network. The 10G Ethernet port also makes it exceedingly powerful. The HDMI monitoring output lets you follow along with a live graphical view of storage activity on a TV or monitor. Low latency file access brings fast responsiveness to USB-C drives.

Local cache storage

The Blackmagic Cloud Pod lets you set up a local cache for Dropbox files, which further speeds up work. Files are instantly available without downloading from the Internet. Moving cached files from Dropbox to the Blackmagic Cloud Store also saves computer space and shares them with everyone on a local network. Syncing multiple Blackmagic Cloud Pods or Cloud Stores via Dropbox is also possible.

HDMI monitoring output is provided for viewing content directly via connection to a TV or monitor. Storage mapping displays core storage and read/write access of connected users in real time. Another four graphs show data transfers over the four main 10G Ethernet links. The display for the main storage shows the capacity of the connected USB-C drive and its current load. In addition, the status of each Dropbox connection can be read.
