CES 2023: Samsung unveils new monitors, including 49-inch QD OLED panel

CES 2023 Samsung Novelties: Samsung has unveiled many exciting new monitors at CES 2023. The Odyssey Neo G9 relies on a 49-inch dual UHD display, and the ViewFinity S9 competes with the Apple Studio Display as a 5K display.

CES 2023 Samsung innovations: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 – 57-inch gaming monitor with 8K x 2K resolution

Samsung has unveiled a number of exciting monitors to kick off CES 2023 in Las Vegas. Kicking off the CES 2023 Samsung innovations is the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 gaming monitor (model name: G95NC), which boasts an 8K x 2K resolution of 7,680 x 2,160 pixels and makes it 57 inches with a 32:9 aspect ratio.

The curved monitor with 1000Rcurvature uses Quantum Mini LED technology with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification to better illuminate dim and bright scenes and display more details. The matte display reduces light reflection on the screen. In addition, there is a refresh rate of 240 hertz.

It features DisplayPort 2.1 support, which supports twice the data rates of DisplayPort 1.4. In addition, the new DP2.1 enables near-lossless Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion. However, DP 2.1 is so far only supported by the new AMD Radeon graphics cards, but not by the GeForce RTX 4000 series.

Odyssey OLED G9: 49-inch gaming monitor with high contrasts

Joining them is another curved gaming monitor, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, which features a 49-inch display that comes with dual-QHD resolution and a 32:9 aspect ratio. It offers 1800R curvature for more immersion. The OLED lighting with Quantum Dot technology is controlled pixel by pixel and enables an intense color contrast ratio.

Pixels are all individually illuminated, allowing for a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and true RGB along with rich blacks. For smooth gaming, the Odyssey OLED G9 offers a response time of 0.1 ms and a refresh rate of 240 Hz.

You can also use various apps on it, such as Prime Video, Netflix or YouTube, which let you enjoy content directly on the Odyssey OLED G9 without the need for a PC. It also comes with the Samsung Gaming Hub, an all-in-one platform for game streaming that supports Xbox and Nvidia GeForce Now, for example.

Samsung ViewFinity S9: 5K display for creatives

On the other hand, the Samsung ViewFinity S9 (model name: S90PC) marks a genuine alternative to the expensive Apple Studio Display. It is scheduled for release in mid-2023 and offers a 5K resolution of 5,120 x 2,880 pixels on a 27-inch screen diagonal.

It covers the DCI-P3 color space by 99 percent and enables pin-sharp and precise details. According to the manufacturer, the color deviation is Delta E less than/equal to 2. The monitor’s integrated color calibration engine enables precise color and brightness representation of the screen.

White balance and RGB color balance can be easily adjusted via smartphone or Samsung Smart Calibration app. In addition, the ViewFinity S9 also relies on a matte display to reduce reflections.

You can also connect cameras and other devices to the monitor via USB-C and Thunderbolt 4 ports. The ViewFinity S9 series comes with a 4K SlimFit camera and supports native video conferencing via apps like Google Meet and many more.

Samsung Smart Monitor M8

The new Samsung Smart Monitor M8 (model name: M80C) focuses on a sleek and slim design and is also available in 27-inch in addition to the existing 32-inch size. Both variants rely on a 4K UHD resolution. It is offered in spring green or warm white.

The height-adjustable stand with tilt support gives you a customizable angle. The screen can be rotated by 90 degrees and can be mounted on a wall or monitor arm via VESA mount.

The built-in SmartThings Hub also lets you connect, control and manage hundreds of compatible networked devices, including lights, cameras, doorbells, locks, thermostats and more. Thanks to support for the Matter standard, the supported devices can be continuously expanded.

Many of the Smart Monitor’s apps, including SmartThings and the Smart Hub, have been enhanced with mouse control functionality for convenient control without a remote.

In addition, many apps like Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, and many more can be run directly from the monitor via the Smart Hub. The Samsung Gaming Hub is also already integrated.

The new My Contents feature provides helpful information at a glance. When the monitor is in standby mode and detects a registered smartphone via low-power Bluetooth, it can display the personalized photos, appointments and more on the screen. The monitor then returns to standby mode when the smartphone is out of range.

The integrated SlimFit camera in the Smart Monitor M8 has been upgraded with 2K resolution. In addition, the Smart Monitor M8 is also protected by Samsung Knox Vault, which encrypts personal data and isolates stored files and information from the device’s main operating system to protect it from attacks.

Prices and availability

Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet revealed when and at what prices the new Samsung monitors will be available in the press release. These details will follow later this year as the market launch approaches.
