Gamescom 2023 - Ghostrunner II

At this year’s Gamescom, we had the pleasure of talking to Łukasz Wabik, the level designer of One More Level, about the upcoming game Ghostrunner II. In this sequel, published by 505 Games, fans can expect an impressive spectacle of fast-paced gameplay and concentrated ninja action. Those who thirst for speed and adrenaline will undoubtedly get their money’s worth here.

The parallels to popular titles such as Overwatch, Mirrors Edge and Cyberpunk are noticeably present in Ghostrunner II, resulting in an intense and very immersive gaming experience and many “aha” moments. The game’s dark graphics draw players into a fascinating atmosphere that cleverly combines futuristic elements with a gloomy aesthetic. This level design and gameplay allows players to dive deep into the game’s dystopian world.

The parallels to Mirrors Edge are also remarkable, especially in the movement of the character Jack. The parkour-like style of movement, which was already fascinating in the first part of both Mirrors Edge and Ghostrunner I, experiences an impressive continuation and evolution in Ghostrunner II. Players can run along walls and jump over obstacles at breathtaking speed, which not only opens up exciting locomotion possibilities, but also enables impressive attack sequences.

A central theme in Ghostrunner II is patience. The motto “One Hit. One Kill.” determines the gameplay, as every hit can mean the end. Tactical approaches and skilful dodging are crucial here. Players are challenged to perfect their reflexes and timing in order to work their way through the challenging fights to the end of the level.

The graphics and speed of the game were once again impressively realised by “One More Level”, just like in the predecessor. In addition to the fighting elements, motorised reinforcement in the form of a motorbike has been introduced. Speed enthusiasts will love this new means of locomotion, which pairs action with high speed.

With the impressive combination of fast-paced Souls-like gameplay and breathtaking driving sequences in the style of games such as Wipeout, Ghostrunner II will captivate almost every action fan. These gameplay mechanics combined with the gritty, cyberpunk-like graphics promise an intense and memorable gaming experience that makes us long for the release.
