German Bionic Apogee Power Suit: Lightweight exoskeleton unveiled at CES 2023

With the Apogee Power Suit, German Bionic has presented a new and particularly lightweight exoskeleton at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, which is intended to provide more ergonomics and relief for the back, especially at work.

German Bionic Apogee Power Suit: intelligent robotic exoskeleton for the working world

At CES 2023, German Bionic debuted new AI-based smart wearables designed to be used in physically demanding jobs, providing increased safety and reduced strain.

The Cray X exoskeleton has already won the CES 2023 “Best of Innovation” award in the Wearable Technologies category, and now they’re showing off the Apogee Power Suit, an intelligent robotic exoskeleton for the workplace.

It is said to be even lighter and more comfortable than its predecessors. The dust- and waterproof power suit ensures greater safety in the workplace, as it relieves the back of up to 30 kilograms during every lifting movement. Thanks to active walking support, fatigue is also said to be minimized.

The Apogee Power Suit is intended for use wherever heavy lifting and carrying are part of everyday work. German Bionic cites the logistics and production industries, as well as the healthcare sector, as examples. German Bionic’s customers include Dachser, DPD “and other global logistics companies, international airports and major retailers such as the UK’s leading electrical retailer Currys”.

Smart SafetyVest

With the Smart SafetyVest, German Bionic is also showcasing an ergonomic safety vest that combines sensor technology and AI functions to enable data-based, ergonomic analyses, evaluations and recommended actions with just a tap of the finger or click of the mouse.

This is designed to identify ergonomic risks and potential improvements in the workplace on a very individual basis to reduce fatigue and injuries.

In addition, the cloud-based German Bionic IO platform will also be on display at CES 2023. The system analyzes data collected by Apogee, Cray X and Smart SafetyVest and improves safety measures with every move using machine learning and AI.

“This allows the respective risks, trends and process optimizations to be determined, matched to the work environment and device used,” according to the manufacturer. An early warning system for ergonomics called Smart Safety Companion alerts users to poor posture, incorrect lifting or excessive strain, and is said to be able to reduce or completely prevent long-term consequences.

“Our smart power suits and wearables protect people who perform hard physical work in system-critical positions every day from overload and accidents. This is done both by machine support during lifting and carrying and by a smart assistance system that warns when, for example, lifting is ergonomically incorrect or a break from work should be taken,” says Armin G. Schmidt, CEO and co-founder of German Bionic.
