SteelSeries Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL available now

There is something new from SteelSeries. The experts for gaming peripherals have introduced two new keyboards in compact design with the SteelSeries Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL.

The trend is moving towards compact keyboards

Just a few years ago, it was unimaginable that a gaming keyboard would come in a compact format. This has changed in the meantime. Models in the so-called 60 percent format are no longer only found as mini keyboards in offices. Gamers are also increasingly turning to space-saving models. For example, we have already taken a closer look at the Trust GXT 834 Callax (test) and the excellent ROCCAT Vulcan TKL Pro Arctic White (test) in our reviews.

Now, SteelSeries Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL are two more representatives of the favor coming our way. While the Apex 9 TKL does without a number pad and relies on the Ten-Keyless design, you won’t even find arrow keys on the even smaller Apex 9 Mini. The advantages of the compact design are obvious. Thus, more space on the desk also ensures more freedom of movement for the gaming mouse at the same time.

The focus of the new gaming keyboards in compact format is clearly on the lowest possible response time. To achieve this goal, SteelSeries relies on optomechanical keyboard switches. Thus, the SteelSeries Apex 9 Mini and Apex 9 TKL enable a sporty response time of just 0.2 milliseconds. So this is undoubtedly the high-end range.

This is not only true for the switches, but also for the rest of the features. Thus, SteelSeries mounts the buttons on a high-quality aluminum top plate. The manufacturer has given the button caps a double-shot inscription, which promises a long hold. In addition, there is an RGB illumination for each individual button. The adjustable feet provide ergonomics. Three different tilt angles can be set here.

Prices and availability

That these are high-end gaming keyboards is also clear from the price. For example, the manufacturer calls for an MSRP of 139.99 euros for its SteelSeries Apex 9 Mini. The Apex 9 TKL, in turn, is said to cost 149.99 euros. Both gaming keyboards are available now.
