Synology WRX560: New WiFi router with tower design

The network experts from Synology have introduced a new router. The Synology WRX560 (official website) is not only supposed to enable fast LAN. On top of that, it offers support for the common WiFi standards. The upcoming router is supposed to score with blazingly fast data transfer, especially with a classic connection via cable.

Actually, we know Synology primarily from smart cloud as well as network solutions. However, as part of its big presentation on October 27, 2022, the company not only presented updates to its NAS software, but also hardware highlights. Along with surveillance cameras, a new router in the form of the Synology WRX560 was also part of the party. What stands out at first glance is the rather untypical design of the WiFi router. The manufacturer relies on a tower-shaped case, which looks good on the network device in the first pictures. Another difference to many other routers is the lack of visible antennas.

Synology skillfully hides these in the case. This also makes it quite different from the Synology RT6600ax, which the company launched in May. Under the hood, of course, is the rest of the technology. Thus, the router operates either in the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz band. This means that the Synology WRX560 offers the WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards. While just under 600 MBit/s are supposed to be possible in the 2.4 GHz network, the router brings it to a proud 2400 MBit/s at 5 GHz according to Synology. Practical mesh features are also supported, which open up many possibilities for smart home enthusiasts in particular.

Classic cable connections with transfer rates of up to 2.5 GBit/s can be established via the total of four LAN ports. At the heart of the 233 x 194 x 66 mm router is a quad-core processor that clocks at 1.4 GHz. This is supported by 512 MB RAM. When it comes to software, Synology’s own Router Manager is used. This should enable many useful features. The possibility to use the Synology WRX560 as a network storage sounds particularly exciting and practical. All you have to do is connect a suitable storage medium to the USB port. Security features like parental controls and web filters round out the package.
