XMG PRO and FOCUS come in five versions in 2023

The PC experts from XMG have presented a total of five new gaming notebooks. These are to upgrade the successful XMG Pro and XMG Focus series with models featuring modern chip technology in the form of an Intel Core i9-13900HX as well as rich graphics power from an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070.

Intel Core i9-13900HX meets RTX 4070

XMG apparently has a lot planned in the gaming notebook segment for 2023. With the XMG Pro 15 and 17 as well as the XMG Focus 15, 16 and 17, five new devices will be launched. All of them will probably use an Intel Core i9-13900HX, which promises a high processor performance. However, there is freedom of choice in terms of the graphics card. While the somewhat cheaper XMG Focus offers the RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070, the Pro leaves out the weakest GPU and only offers the RTX 4060 and 4070.

To prevent the powerful hardware from overheating, XMG relies on a compound cooling system that is supposed to offer more performance than the previous models did. The whole thing is complemented by optimized fans that are not only supposed to offer more power, but also work with lower frequencies. This should make the acoustics more pleasant. There is also supposed to be an upgrade in the working memory. Finally, DDR5 is used instead of DDR4. While the two M.2 SSD ports with PCIe 4.0 were already present in the Pro of the previous generation, they celebrate their debut in the Focus.

Display with up to 240 Hz

You can also choose between different options when it comes to the display. In the standard version, the display of the Focus 17, Pro 15 and Pro 17 offers a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels (WQHD). The IPS panel has a fast refresh rate of 240 Hz and covers 99% of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color space. The Focus 15 again has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) and 165 Hz. For an additional charge, 240 Hz is also possible for the smallest Focus.

Those who want to enjoy more resolution on the Pro 17 can reach for the UHD panel, which still offers a very good refresh rate of 144 Hz. The XMG Focus 16 stands out from the crowd, coming in with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels (WQXGA) and 165 Hz due to its exotic screen size and 16:10 format. Regardless of which display you choose, you get a variable refresh rate with G-Sync and Nvidia Advanced Optimus, which promises buttery smooth gaming.

XMG promises connectivity and everyday usability

In terms of connectivity, it is clear that XMG’s five new models can definitely be used for work as well. Thus, USB-C 3.2 Gen2, USB-A 3.2 Gen1, USB-A 2.0, HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort 1.4 and an additional Thunderbolt 4 port with iGPU connection can be found on the gaming notebooks of the Focus series. The whole is rounded off with separate audio ports (micro and headphone) as well as a LAN and microSD port. WiFi 6E again promises lightning-fast connections with wireless networks.

Things look even better in the Pro models. With HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort 1.4, USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port, Thunderbolt 4 (all with dGPU connectivity), 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, combo plug for audio and Wi-Fi 6E, no wishes are actually left open here. For video conferencing, both series offer a webcam that resolves in Full HD. Visually, the differences between the Pro and Focus series are a bit more obvious. After all, XMG Pro 15 and 17 rely on a slim aluminum chassis, which is a bit thinner than that of the Focus.

XMG Pro leads the way in features

With dimensions of 358 x 240 x 24.9 mm and 2.4 kg (Pro 15) and 396 x 262 x 24.9 mm and 2.8 kg (Pro 17) respectively, the Pro models are quite light whereby you should be able to take them to work without any problems. However, Focus 15, 16 and 17 are by no means clunky with their almost 3 mm thicker case. The weight is also still comfortable at 2.4 kg for the smallest model and 2.9 kg for the Focus 17. Unlike the Pro, the XMG Focus is not completely made of aluminum. Except for the aluminum display lid, plastic is used here.

According to the manufacturer, this is supposed to be significantly more stable than was the case with the predecessor models. In terms of battery capacity, the Focus series in particular makes a considerable step forward. XMG states that the 54 Wh of the predecessor should now have grown to 73 Wh. However, the XMG Pro is still ahead with 80 Wh. By the way, this also applies to the keyboard’s configuration. Both series offer a full-size keyboard, but only the Pro offers a freely customizable RGB illumination for every single key. The Focus is only supposed to offer a choice of 15 colors for the illumination.

For the XMG Pro 15, the manufacturer demands a price starting at 1,999.00 euro.

The Pro 17 is the most expensive notebook of the newly introduced models with at least 2,049.00 Euros. XMG Focus 15 and 16 as well as the Pro 15 are available for purchase now.
