Amazon Freevee launches in Germany: Here’s what’s in the free streaming service

The recently introduced redesign of Amazon Prime Video had already hinted at it. As the Internet giant has now announced, the free streaming service Amazon Freevee is now also launching in Germany. What can you expect?

Amazon Freevee Germany launches

Amazon Freevee was formerly known as IMDb TV and should, it was said about two weeks ago, still in the course of 2022 also launch in Germany. Now it went faster than expected, because as Amazon announced on August 03, the free streaming service is now available in this country.

Amazon itself describes Freevee as “free premium streaming service”, which offers a wide selection of movies and TV series. It is web-financed and can be used with or without an Amazon Prime membership, which will soon become more expensive. Access is via the Prime Video app on all devices or website. In the next few days, a separate app will also be offered on Fire TV devices.

In the Prime Video app, there will be a separate Freevee tab or carousel for this purpose, with a small “ads” notice in the upper left corner of the preview image revealing that the broadcast will be accompanied by advertising interruptions.

The insertion of advertising makes it possible to offer high-quality movies and series completely free of charge. That’s why sports can’t be turned off or skipped.

What content does Amazon Freevee offer?

On Amazon Freevee, you can choose from some exciting in-house productions, including, for example, the TV series “Bosch: Legacy”, which is based on the cult series “Bosch” around the detective of the same name.

There are also other Amazon Freevee Originals, such as “Uninterrupted’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers” and “Bug Out”. In addition, there are numerous other series and movies of all genres, while many productions from Amazon Prime Video with commercial breaks are also included in the free streaming service.

In addition, there are various thematically programmed linear live channels from BBC Food, BBC Travel, BBC History, X-Factor: The Unbelievable, and many more. The portfolio of content is absolutely impressive. Customers are said to be “pleasantly surprised by the high-quality, free programming now available to them on Amazon Freevee,” reveals Christian Hoeweler, head of Amazon Freevee Germany.

Other streaming providers rely on advertising model

With its ad-financed, free streaming service, Amazon Freevee is taking a pioneering role that other providers want to follow. Competitor Netflix had just recently revealed that its own advertising subscription will start in 2023.

Disney+ also has a corresponding advertiser-funded subscription model in the pipeline, although advertising is to be limited to four minutes per hour. Details on prices and the launch have not yet been disclosed, however.
