After the new foldable Honor Magic Vs was leaked at the beginning of November, the manufacturer has now officially unveiled the smartphone in China. It is just 12.9 mm thick when folded and weighs 261 grams – thus marking the lightest foldable smartphone at the moment.
The Honor Magic Vs in detail
Above all, the leak of the Honor Magic Vs, which is the successor of the Magic V, still left us with technical details. These are now available thanks to the official presentation. The particularly quiet, gearless hinge of the foldable is especially exciting. It is made from a single casting and uses materials from aerospace technology.
It consists of only four components and is thus said to be more functional and durable. Up to 400,000 folds should not be a problem for the Magic Vs. If you fold your smartphone 100 times a day, you will achieve a service life of over 10 years.
The design of the screens is also new. Instead of a long and narrow external screen, when folded the foldable device features a 6.45-inch display with a user-friendly 21:9 aspect ratio and a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. When unfolded, the Magic Vs offers a 7.9-inch display. The 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut with 1.07 billion colors displays stunning images in lifelike colors, and the refresh rate is 120 hertz.
“For a comfortable viewing experience at all times, both screens of the HONOR Magic Vs are equipped with 1920 Hz Dynamic Dimming technology. This dynamically adjusts the screen brightness to reduce eye strain. In addition, the newly designed Circadian Night Display effectively minimizes the effects of blue light and ensures that screen content is pleasantly legible even in dimly lit environments,” the manufacturer said.
Strong cameras, big battery
The Honor Magic Vs is also powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which ensures high performance and excellent energy efficiency. In addition, there are 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, as well as 256 GB or 512 GB of system memory.
The operating system is MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 12, and the battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. However, Honor does not mention details about the charging speed. In cooperation with Qualcomm, HONOR has also installed a dual-TEE security system (Trusted Execution Environment) that increases the user’s privacy and security.
A triple camera system – consisting of a 54 MP main camera with IMX800 image sensor, a 50 MP ultra-wide and macro camera, and an 8 MP zoom camera with 3x optical zoom, are said to provide excellent image quality. The AI-powered HONOR Image Engine also further improves image quality.
Prices and Availability
The Honor Magic Vs will unfortunately launch exclusively in China for now, but is expected to make its way to Europe before the end of the first quarter of 2023. In China, the price starts at an MSRP of 7,499 yuan, which corresponds to around 1,007 euros. More details can be found on Honor’s product website.
