Another iPhone 14 Pro leak is currently doing the rounds, which once again confirms that Apple’s upcoming smartphone will come without a notch – at least for the Pro model. There was already a similar rumor in mid-December. Once again, the new hints come from the well-known leaker @dylandkt.
iPhone 14 Pro with pill-shaped punch hole
According to the new leak, Apple will actually do away with the notch notch in the display, which is hated among fans, on the iPhone 14 Pro. Instead, the smartphone’s front-facing cameras are said to sit in a punch-hole that comes in the shape of a pill (i.e. is significantly longer than it is tall).
This suggests that Apple will use the additional space in the punch hole for additional sensors or a second selfie camera. For example, this could enable unlocking via Face ID, which would not be possible due to the sensors in a round hole in the display.
Invisible Face ID module?
Leaker Apple Tomorrow also confirmed via Twitter the rumor of a pill-shaped punch hole. However, he claims that the sensors needed for Face ID facial recognition are not placed in the punch hole.
Instead, Apple is said to have installed the hardware invisibly under the display. And that is without affecting the functionality of the sensors. Of course, such rumors should still be taken with a grain of salt, because it will still be a while before the new iPhone models are unveiled.
The Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are expected to be officially unveiled in September. Presumably, they will again be offered with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. The two Pro models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays will then be joined by two non-Pro models with the same screen sizes. Presumably called iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max.
According to further rumors, we can expect extensive camera improvements with a 48-megapixel camera that is supposed to output a 12-megapixel image by combining four pixels at a time, a case made of titanium and maybe even the elimination of the SIM card slot.
