Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra: All info about the new Samsung smartphones

Samsung officially unveiled its new smartphones on February 1. Even though a leak the day before had already revealed most of the details, there was still some exciting new information. We have compiled all the info on the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra in detail

The new Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra smartphones finally come with a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm in Europe, as expected. The installed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor is a beefed-up version of the normal 8 Gen 2, which is clocked with 3.36 GHz. According to Samsung, it is the strongest and most efficient processor installed in a Samsung smartphone so far and the fastest Snapdragon SoC currently available.

With the help of a newly designed CPU microarchitecture, the Galaxy S23 series’ operating speed is increased by about 30 percent compared with the Galaxy S22 series. The NPU architecture, which is responsible for image calculations and AI tasks, for example, could even be optimized by 49%. In terms of the GPU, Samsung promises a performance increase of around 41 percent compared to the previous year.

The new Galaxy S series has been equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the first time, which is said to be particularly robust and durable. It consists of an average of 22 percent recycled material.

The GPU of the three smartphones is also improved. It supports ray tracing for light and shadow calculations in real time and an excellent gaming performance that is supposed to be further improved by Samsung’s so-called Game Post Processing Accelerator.

Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+

Like last year, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ position themselves below the Ultra model in terms of features and size. The S23 comes with a screen diagonal of 6.1 inches, the Plus model with 6.6 inches. Both offer an AMOLED display that dynamically adjusts the refresh rate between 48 hertz and 120 Hz. The brightness is 1,750 nits for all models this year.

The resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels is also the same. In return, there are differences in the battery capacity. The S23 has to make do with 3,900 mAh, the Plus with 4,700 mAh. However, Samsung promises better runtimes than in the S22 series due to the more energy-efficient chip.

There are also differences in the charging speed, which is 25 watts in the case of the S23, while the Plus can also be charged with up to 45 watts via cable. Both smartphones have a wireless charging speed of 15 watts, and reverse wireless charging is also supported.

The S23 comes with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, the S23+ with 256 GB or 512 GB. However, fast UFS 4.0 storage is only available from 256 GB upwards. Otherwise, both smartphones have the same angular design as the Ultra model and support Wi-Fi 6E and 5G.

The camera equipment is also identical: There is a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12 MP Ultra wide-angle lens, and a 10 MP telephoto camera on the back, while the selfie cam has a resolution of 12 megapixels. Videos can be recorded in 8K at 30 fps or in 4K at 60 fps.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra offers significantly more

The new flagship goes by the name Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display that resolves in 1440p and gets 1,750 nits of brightness. The Eye Comfort feature can also adjust color tones and contrast levels to keep eye strain low in dark environments. The Vision Booster, on the other hand, now adjusts to three different brightness levels instead of two.

Most features are identical to the S23 and S23+. However, there are differences in the battery capacity, which is 5,000 mAh. Charging is done with 45 watts via cable or 15 watts wirelessly.

The focus is of course also on the cameras, first and foremost Samsung installs a new 200-megapixel main camera exclusively in the Ultra. It uses pixel binning to support multiple levels of High-Resolution Processing simultaneously.

The rest of the cameras are similar to those of the predecessor S22 Ultra: Offered is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2), a 10-MP telephoto camera (f/2.4) with triple zoom, and a 10-MP periscope telephoto camera with ten times optical zoom. A 12 MP selfie cam with autofocus rounds out the features.
