Philips presents the 40B1U6903CH: A 5K monitor with Thunderbolt 4 and 5MP webcam

Philips expands its portfolio of monitors with the introduction of the 40B1U6903CH, a device that offers 5K resolution, an IPS panel, Thunderbolt 4 and a webcam. Unlike previous models that offered 1,440 pixels vertically, this 40-inch model offers 2,160 pixels, which corresponds to a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Improvements over previous models

Compared to the previous 32:9 format models introduced in the spring by MMD with its Philips Monitors brand and AOC, which is also part of the world’s largest LCD manufacturer TPV Technology Limited, the 40B1U6903CH offers more pixels vertically. Instead of a curved VA panel, this model uses a flat IPS panel that offers less contrast but a wider color spectrum with 98 percent of DCI-P3.

Connections and Features

The 40B1U6903CH outperforms the other models in terms of connections, as it offers Thunderbolt 4. This connection type is the fastest and most versatile, transferring data at up to 40 Gbps overall, including DisplayPort signals and up to 90 watts of power for a connected notebook. In addition, thanks to a Gigabit LAN port, the monitor also offers network access and mouse and keyboard control along with KVM functionality, replacing a docking station.

Other features

The 40B1U6903CH offers a resolution of 5,120 × 2,160 pixels with a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz, but this is only possible via DisplayPort 1.4 or Thunderbolt 4, as the limit via the two HDMI 2.0 jacks is 60 Hz. Additionally, speakers and a webcam are integrated. The webcam offers 5 megapixels, support for Windows Hello and a microphone with noise cancelling. A headset holder and a light sensor are also present.

Availability and Price

Designed primarily for the workplace, the Philips 40B1U6903CH is expected to be available later this month at a price of €1,849 (MSRP). With its advanced features and improvements over previous models, this monitor is an interesting option for those looking for a powerful and versatile monitor.
