Motorola attacks the mid-range: Moto G62 5G and Moto G42

Motorola has announced two new smartphones. However, the former cell phone giant does not want to launch a flagship this time. Instead, the Moto G62 5G and Moto G42 are to be two well-equipped mid-range devices at a fair price.

Unveiling in Brazil

Just a few weeks ago, Motorola surprised its fans with the Moto G82 5G – a promising smartphone flagship that comes with a 120 Hz AMOLED panel, among other features. Now, the next bang already follows. However, the U.S. manufacturer wants to go in a completely different direction with its Moto G62 5G and Moto G42, which were presented in Brazil a few days ago. This time, the company is clearly targeting the market for affordable mid-range devices. We take a look at the technical details of the two smartphones.

Motorola Moto G62 5G

The Moto G62 5G is powered by the not-so-dewy Snapdragon 480 5G. According to its name, it offers modern 5G and should be completely sufficient for average smartphone users in terms of performance. The Qualcomm processor is supported by 4 GB of RAM. The internal storage of 128 GB can be expanded. With a 6.5-inch display, it is by no means a compact smartphone.

The screen relies on LCD technology and resolves in FHD+. A refresh rate of a proud 120 Hz promises to avoid annoying distortions even in fast movements. Furthermore, Motorola equips the smartphone with a large 5,000 mAh battery. You should be able to charge it with a lame 15 watts – more would have been possible in view of the modern fast charging technology of other mid-range smartphones.

For the snapshot in between, a triple camera is available on the back. The main camera has a resolution of 50 MP. In addition, there is an ultra-wide-angle lens with 8 MP and a macro lens with 2 MP. The selfie camera at the front again has a resolution of 16 MP. You can order the Moto G62 5G now in the color Midnight Gray at an MSRP of 269.99 euros.

Motorola Moto G42

Those who can do without 120 Hz and 5G in favor of AMOLED should take a look at the Motorola Moto G42. It is powered by a Snapdragon 680 from Qualcomm. It “only” offers 5G. The SoC is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The 6.4-inch AMOLED panel is certainly the number one selling point. It has a FHD+ resolution and does not offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but at least 90 Hz. Motorola also installs a triple camera consisting of a main camera (50 MP), ultra-wide-angle lens (8 MP) and macro lens (2 MP). The front camera with 16 MP also matches the Moto G62.

The same goes for the battery with a size of 5,000 mAh. However, the Moto G42 can be charged with 18 watts. Not really fast, but better than the G62. Unlike the Moto G62, the Moto G42 is not yet available. However, it should be ready by the end of June. Motorola then wants to launch the smartphone at a real fighting price of just barely 210 Euros. That is really remarkable for an AMOLED device. The colors Metallic Rosé and Atlantic Green will be available.
